Probably Not Getting Into My Dream School

So, I’ll be a senior this coming school year. My transcript is very colorful (anywhere from As in APs to Ds in CPs). Anyway, only recently did I find the school of my dreams which convinced me that I did want to go to college. And now, because of my own stupidity, I probably won’t get in. Or, since it’s one of the most expensive schools in the nation, I probably won’t be admitted if I get in.
So, anybody feeling the same way? If so, comment with the name of the school and your woes. We can console each other.

Same, an ACT score of 25 and UofM don’t mix well. September 21st is the retake. Also only 3.83 gpa along with some okay to good extracurricular. Should have done better freshman and sophomore year. Hopefully my retake and essays will get me in but if not, university of Wisconsin and Wayne are my back ups. University of Wisconsin isn’t a backup but a second choice.

Also it’s very competitive

This thread is making me scared a little! I’m applying for Canisius College - my dream school. I’ll be applying in a couple of months and I have bad grades, but improved during junior year and taking an AP course senior year. I take education really seriously now, and I’m hoping Canisius accepts me. I research their info everyday, call their admissions office everyday, I can’t stop thinking about it. My SAT scores meet their 25th percentile, I’m hoping I can get in. I made a college essay trying my hardest to convince them that I take school seriously now. Ihope they understand and accept me.

Ryan: stop calling them everyday – you’ll surely sink your chances as if you swallowed a bowling ball. To say this is counterproductive is an understatement. Your essay should convey to them who you are besides being obsessed with being their student. They want to know if you are an interesting person, not a stalker. You can also calm down by finding other schools that you’ll love as much as Canisius. Stop trying to convince them of ANYTHING and present yourself in the best possible light. The earth isn’t going to split if they reject you – yet you act as if it will. Stop it. You’re about to be an adult, act like one.

Snay: a 25 yields you zero chance at UM. Your broader list is good. Stay on track.

HSSeniior12: you started this thread for what reason? To hear others with their desperate/fantasy college woes? You should do what I’m telling Ryan. Craft a list of viable colleges that will admit you and that you can afford. Just because a school is expensive does not mean they won’t accept you and/or offer you a viable FinAid package. From what you’ve written, you seem unaware of this fact. That shows a big red flag-- you’re plodding forth not having any concrete idea what’s affordable to you. That’s a strategy with failure written all over it. Meet w/your guid counselor and see where others w/a similar academic record have applied. Then make sure you and your parents discover FAFSA and other intricacies of Fin Aid.

Hearing people whinge about their woes is like scratching a blackboard when answers and solutions are at hand. Please go get these solutions. Good luck to all of you.

Wow T26E4 did work

For the most part, I haven’t allowed myself to become too obsessed with reaches. I haven’t done a lot of college research, so they all seem basically the same to me and at this point I’m just trying to get into the “best” college I can afford.

Translation: I probably won’t get in if I get in.
What does that mean?

That’s the fun of dream schools. They’re fun to dream about. Apply away, dream for the best but have a back up plan.

Aw T26E4 a pity party’s fine every once in a while.

But really guys, what you should do instead of having unattainable dreams schools is to make a list of qualities that you want in a college and find schools that you can actually get into. My list fluctuates frequently, but it currently ranges from my affordable, safety state schools (Christopher Newport, JMU, GMU) to “matches” (Boston College, William & Mary, UVA) to reaches (…Princeton anyone?)

Incorrect. The average accepted ACT for UM from students at my school is 25. In fact, looking at the scattergram on Naviance, I see from the past 3 years a total of 14 acceptances with ACTs from 19-24. And no, none were recruited athletes or had any significant hook.

Snay: the average unweighted GPA for accepted students at UofM is a 3.6 at my school, so do not lose hope!

rokr: These went to Ann Arbor campus? Not Dearborn or Flint?

T26E4: sorry, the graph had all of them together for some reason. For Ann Arbor specifically, the UW GPA is around 3.7 and the ACT is 27. However, two kids got in with a 25 in the last 3 years, yet many others with similar ACT scores got rejected.

So i wouldn’t say zero chance, but very very small. Definitely try to get a higher score in September.

I’m not even applying to my dream schools because it costs too much :(
