Hello guys, I am a student in Hong Kong and just got admitted by DVC.
And I want to ask a question about “Transfer to UCs”.

Firstly, I saw that I can apply UCs during 1/oct to 1/Dec, however the admission result will be released at the end of April. However, as far as I know, in community college my holiday will begin on August.
So, Is there are 10 months that I don’t have anything to do?

Secondly, will my admission become larger if I hold some certification, ( I currently certificated as CCNA Security ,CCNP , CCDP , MCSE , OCP Java SE 7 Programmer and i want to get into computer science)

I know my question is very silly for you guys, but I really can’t find any information in Hong Kong,so can someone answer me ?

I really don’t understand what you are trying to do. Are you attending community college right now? Do you want to transfer directly from a university in Hong Kong?

Background information: DVC is a community college.

Catalyst: Have you completed any college-level work in Hong Kong? I am not too familiar with international transcripts, but you may have to complete not one, but two years at DVC to finish up with general education. When are you moving to America? If applying as a community college transfer from DVC, you will need to have completed classes at DVC. If you are currently in Hong Kong and planning to apply this November, you would be considered an international student, not a DVC student.

You would submit your application to transfer to a UC in November 2013. You would know what schools accepted you by late April 2014. You would begin at UC August or September 2014, so there would be no 10-month break.

I am sorry for my poor english. I completed high school in hong kong, and i got admitted by DVC as international student in spring 2014.

RE:littlelion
Let’s make an assumption here.
Let’s say I finished my 2-years education in DVC(around august 2016) and I submitted my application to transfer to a UC in November 2016. And I will know my result in late April 2016 , and I will begin my UC life in Sep 2016.
So I don’t have anything to do except wait during Nov 2016 to Aug 2016.
Is this assumption true ?

I go to UCD and it is a great school, but I don’t feel like it’s me and financially, it would be better for my family if I were back in SoCal where I am from so they don’t have to pay my phone bill, pay hundreds of dollars to get me back home, and send me money for food because I don’t have enough time as a full time student to work full time to support myself. I have 24 units from AP classes and I am taking 16 units for the fall quarter. I graduated top 2% of my class, so I am not concerned about high school grades and I don’t have a GPA since the school year just began.Relying purely on HS, I am confidant I can get in, doesn’t mean I will though, I know that. I want to transfer to UCI. Tell me how the school is and please don’t persuade me to stay, I have my mind set that I am going to transfer, even if it is to Cal State Fullerton or Northridge. I can get into a CSU easily, UC, I don’t know so much. I was in the local index that allowed me admission into at least one UC and I am applying again to UCI and. Please don’t tell me rankings, I need to be back in SoCal senior year. Anyone transfer after one year?

You are having some problems with dates. April comes before November, so if you apply in November 2016, you will not know your result until April 2017, not April 2016. How people do it, is they apply when they still have one year left, so then by the time you finish school at DVC (whatever that is) you will have been admitted to a UC. In other words, you apply when you are one year in, when you have one year left.

Yes, certification of different computer skills will help your application for some of the UCs. If I misunderstood what you were asking or you don’t understand what I’m saying, let me know and I’ll try to explain.

Typical schedule would be to apply in the fall the year before you would start at the UC or CSU, with the expectation of completing the needed pre-transfer course work no later than the following spring.

DVC is presumably Diablo Valley College, one of the few community colleges that has a course articulated to CS 61C at Berkeley. Nearby Laney College has a course articulated to CS 61A at Berkeley. Both have courses articulated to CS 61B at Berkeley. See [Welcome to ASSIST](http://www.assist.org) for course articulation between community colleges and UCs and CSUs.

If I understand correctly, you want to transfer in 2016. That would actually be a good time frame for a CS transfer

Spring 2014
Fall 2014
Spring 2015
Fall 2015
Spring 2016

That’s 5 semesters along with some summer sessions. So if you plan out correctly, you should have plenty of time to complete everything without having to take 5 hard classes per semester. Use [Welcome to ASSIST](http://www.assist.org) to plan out everything appropriately. If you’re in school all 5 semesters, then there wouldn’t be any wait. You apply during Fall 2015 (November 2015) and you get your results in April 2016. If you finish early, then yes, you would be a semester without doing anything.
