Ive already submitted my application but Ive got a question thats been nagging me for a while so here goes:

Below are my grades from years 9-11 and I just included the unweighted grade. But I’m kind of worried about my 10th year grades as you’ll probably see…

Gr.9 --92.5% final average*

Math 78 (!!!)
Sci 97
Eng 91
History 98
Comp Sci. 90
French 86 (!)
leadership 91
careers 96
bus 92

Gr.10----91.1% Final average*

Gr. 11------96.1% Final Average*

Also I took the ACT and received a score of 34 as well as an 800 on US History SAT II, 760 Chem SAT II, and 760 Literature SAT II.

At the end of it all, I am ranked 2nd out of about 130 students.

So my question is --on a strictly academic level-- will my grades in grade 10 really hold me back? It wasn’t my best year as I was struggling with some personal family problems, but I guess thats life.

A couple Bs are fine, a C once or once as one admissions officer often says, but at this point, you’ve submitted your application, no point fretting about it now.

As long as you improved, it won’t hurt you. Like in grade 11 and hopefully this year if your math grade is still in the C range it will be a problem.

It would probably be good to emphasize the strong current performance and upward trend. Do not dwell too much on family problems as that looks too defensive - your rank, after all, is still good and justifying earlier grades (unless the problems at home were seriously debilitating) looks a bit petty (but by all means make a note of it, just don’t focus on it…)
