Process question

My d has applied RD to Wesleyan. The website indicates that they’ve received everything (except, of course, the mid year report).

The thing that concerns me, though, is that it lists the ACT, SAT II Choice A and SAT II Choice B. Now obviously they’ve also received the SAT I. So I guess my question is this -

If they’re using only the ACT, wouldn’t they ignore the SAT II’s since they’re not required if you send the ACT?

On the other hand, wouldn’t they consider both the ACT and the SAT I, particularly if they’re also considering the SAT II’s?

The reason that I ask is that my d got an excellent SAT I score, a very good ACT score, and two not-so-good SAT II’s. She decided to send all the scores and let the chips fall where they may.

Any ideas? Should she call admissions and discuss, or should we just leave it alone?

I can’t answer your question but I am impressed that your daughter has finished her application. My son will be applying but I don’t expect a finished application till mid-December at the earliest. We have been there twice and it is near the top of my list. I am very impressed with the School of Social Studies. Alas, it is not my decision. That he is applying to Wesleyan at all is a miracle. Good luck to you and your daughter.

Thanks, Alan. She’s only got the app in because we pushed a little bit (ran out of duct tape, I guess). She finally agreed that it was easier just to get the thing done rather than have it hang over her head into the holidays. And since I work in IT, I’m always worried about the Common App’s server going down or power failures or just being unable to log on due to demand at deadline time!

Good luck to you and your son as well. Are we having fun yet?

Not exactly fun but I am much less anxious than I thought I would be at this point in time. He seems to have had a maturity/developmental spurt in the last 2 months. He owns the application process and is handling everything. We are just keeping tabs. He now actually does what he says he is going to do. Academically, he has never worked harder but is handling it better. He can actually plan 7-10 days in advance to see how he is going to get things done and then plans accordingly. Basically, I could not ask more of him than he is doing. With the duct tape on, I am just sitting back and watching in amazement how he is getting everything done. He is at Model Congress from Thursday thru Sunday but I know that he will make up all the work he needs to do. If it means staying up till 4 in the morning and getting up at 7, he will do it without having to be told. It is what you live for as parents to see these things happen as your child matures right before your eyes.

Regarding the initial inquiry, about the Wescheck system and how it treats the various tests, I called Wesleyan admissions to inquire about an issue related to my son’s application. He has taken the SAT I and the ACT, but not the SAT II. The SAT II is not required if you have taken the ACT. We sent Wesleyan both the SAT I scores and the ACT. But the Wescheck website only diplayed that they had received the SAT I, and said we were missing the SAT II’s. I called Wesleyan admissions, and they told me that the software that produces the Wescheck website information does not allow them to indicate that the ACT has been received after the SAT information is entered, or vice versa. Therefore, since they received my son’s SAT information on October 31st, and the ACT information on November 1st, the ACT information cannot be entered into the Wescheck system. However, the Wescheck system is only for the information of students and parents, and not for the Wesleyan admissions people. So, they basically told me not to worry about it, that the admissions officers would see all the information. I suspect something similar happenned with the SAT I information for Chedva’s daughter. Wesleyan may have it, but its presence cannot be indicated by the software running the Wescheck system. However, if I were Chedva, I would call Wesleyan admissions to doublecheck on this.

Thanks, rdaneel. Since Wesleyan has the SAT II scores, I’m willing to assume that they have the SAT I’s as well, but simply got the ACT scores first. I sure hope the SAT II’s won’t hurt her in this process! (Of course, that’s not a question I’m willing to ask!)

similar thing here for my son. He applied ED1 and they got the SAT1 and 2 report first, it shows up on his WesCheck. But then they got the ACT report and it never has shown up. He called today (he is deferred to ED2) to make sure the ACT is in the file, since those scores are significantly higher. They said the ACT was there, not to worry.
