Procrastination

Most things can be put-off. Why stress. You’ll get around to it when you need to. Anxious people manage their anxiety either by getting things done months in advance (I have a relative that sends me a birthday card one month in advance) and others do it at the very last minute. Just accept the way you do things.

I am just now finishing off my to-do list from the past fifteen years. I’ve finally found the time to dig into these very important things. I just didn’t have the time before now. I wish I had spent less time worrying about not getting these things done.

Those things couldn’t have been life altering if you were able to put them off for ten years! One reason to get around to things is to not have to think about them anymore.

wis78- Trust me when I tell you they are more important than many other things I was busy doing like deciding what to make for dinner or other daily tasks. They are profound decisions around life and financial longterm planning. I have found that many people put off difficult complex things like retirement planning, wills, longterm health care decisions, investments and important discussions around how one wants to live their life in the present and in the twilight years. I am not criticizing the stress many people feel about putting off bill paying and other chores. I just find that raising a family and being a connected person makes it difficult to stay on top of all of the daily stuff. At least it was for me.

Oh, those. The unfun financial things to get around to before too long but not the mundane things. Did them and have forgotten about them. The paperwork is out of sight and mind.

Sometimes I feel like my life is in piles. Small piles around the house. Small piles of paperwork in every room, things I need to get rid of, clothes, whatever. In piles. I could probably get rid of it all in a day, but I don’t want to deal with it. I can take care of things when they are due, but the piles that I have to make decisions about…fortunately, some of the things have a deadline, so by the time I decide to deal with them, they are expired or irrelevant anyways.

This thread seems to be made for my life situation. However, because it is on CC, which is one of my biggest procrastination tools, posting is less helpful than shutting the computer. Most days off I start up strong and get a lot done. Work days, I am a basket case, and don’t do much besides exercise and a few basic chores.

If you look at a young child, and their energy level, and I think of my own, well, there is a large difference. We are slowing a bit, exercise and diet fine tuning notwithstanding. Busdriver, I have more than a few piles as well.

I used to have checklist but not anymore except for the important stuff like medicine. I get things done eventually but sometimes mental energy is what I need after a good rest. So Sunday is when I can start doing things but then I get back to work Monday.

I’ve never used CC for procrastination. Nope. Never. (Pay no attention to the post count).

I’m bad about procrastinating but it always seems to work out in the end- which makes it even worse because it further justifies my bad habits.

VH: I completely understand. Some days I’m just in the mood to clean the kitchen and clean it well. Others I have trouble even filling the dishwasher. Today I spent a couple of hours recording my checks and other payments for the last five months that I didn’t feel like doing. I was in the mood. Some days I feel like making a gourmet mood and others I’m happy with leftovers or canned food. As I age, I’ve decided to do things when I FEEL like doing them and not necessarily when I feel guilty. It’s been working so far.

Trying again wth the Roz Chast cartoon:
http://www.condenaststore.com/-sp/A-panel-called-Creation-The-True-Story-which-retells-the-Genesis-creati-New-Yorker-Cartoon-Prints_i12203002_.htm

Click on the cartoon and it gets bigger.

Great cartoon. That’s probably how I would’ve handled it.
