I have no idea why, on some days, I just can’t get motivated to complete certain chores, while on other days I can buzz through them at warp speed.

For about a week, it’s been on my list to call our oil delivery service to make sure our contract for the coming winter is all set and to our advantage. For days, I’ve whined to myself, "I don’t wanna . . . It’s boring . . . I’ll do it tomorrow . . . "

Today, I did it, and it took all of five minutes. So why didn’t I do it the other day?

If I were doing what I am supposed to be doing right now (finishing up fall syllabi–due tomorrow) I wouldn’t be on this page, reading your post… :(

Are we married to triplets? (re: # 5 & 7) Oddly, no one would guess that I’m a first rate procrastinator. Things do get done, eventually, but usually at the very last second.

sax: I learned a long time ago that if I want it to get done – oh, nothing special; eating dinner; taking out the garbage; paying bills; hiring the lawn guys – I’d better do it myself. The only thing I don’t do is cars. I’ll fill them with gas, but otherwise, no insurance, no inspection, no oil changes, nothing, nada, zilch. That’s his job. His one job.

I’m actually getting better at this as I age.
I have always had a need to do everything ‘perfectly’, which is of course impossible.

I’m embracing the “good enough” plan more and more and enjoying it.
Since good enough takes ALOT less effort than perfection, I’m finding that I don’t need to procrastinate as much.
I’m actually cleaning the house more often, though maybe not as thoroughly as I should!

I’ve found my people. DH is the exact opposite, which causes its own conflicts. He can’t stand that I wait to get things done at the last minute (but I’m never late). I think he acts too impulsively and rushes to get things done without thinking them through.

I’m procrastinating to go to find something for dinner… Procrastination v hunger. Lets see what wins (of course, if I had to feed Mr B, I’d be in the kitchen whipping up a fancy meal, but when I’m on my own… There is no motivation. )

Retired so having enough time isn’t the issue. I find myself putting off unfun tasks until I Have to do them or bite the bullet and just do them. Most are not as bad as I envisioned. Other tasks I put off are ones I don’t have a clear idea of how to accomplish. I am a list maker and it seems as though when I finish or nearly finish the list that is nagging at me something else needs attending to. In general I am a get things done person, but there are those things put on that list or they are out of sight, out of mind.

H and I generally complement each other. He helps me relax and I get the trivial, but useful (and usually needed), things in life done for us. Years of doing the dance together we tend to have things worked out. I hate financial things even though I am very capable of handling them- he does them and reminds me to deal with such things he can’t like my IRA. If I died tomorrow he would have plenty of time before he needed to shop much. And he would hire a house cleaner. If he died I would have to take over the bills et al- he better outlive me!
