Professional quality photo printing

Does anyone have any experience with professional quality photo printing of digital pictures?

My favorite vendor is Mpix.com which is the retail “sibling” to Miller’s Lab (used by many professionals). I enjoy photography as a hobby, but I have several friends who are professionals. Most of them use Miller’s. The metallic prints at Mpix are spectacular for landscapes. I just ordered some of those and love them.

Miller’s requires more bulk per month. Smaller and/or independent photographers who don’t do as much volume use mpix. It has a great UI and the products are good.

Start with a few to see if you need to adjust your screen settings for image color review (ie, is the proof you are producing on your monitor what is being printed).

Thanks!! I will check it out

Thanks for the recommendation. They were on my short list of possibles for some pictures I wanted printed, so I just went ahead and ordered. That must be the clunkiest user interface I have encountered in a very long time!

Seattle?
DS did a series of large format.
Frames cost more than the prints.

I use a small professional printing shop here in CT that’s favored by professional photographers … but that doesn’t help you much, does it? What I’d suggest is asking someone in your local area who is in “the business” … a photographer, or an advertising agency, or a firm that creates artwork for trade shows.

I use [Professional Photo Lab|HD Photo Lab|Free Real Photo Paper Books|Always free Metallic upgrade](http://www.hdphotolab.com) - locally (SC) pro printed photos. I have always had great results with them.

dmd77 - huh? Sorry about the UI. I’ve used them for so long I’m used to it. By habit it does seem easier then other labs I’ve worked with. Hope you are pleased with the quality of work!

Blueiguana: DH and DS both develop e-commerce sites for a living, so I’m very aware of user interface issues. I got through the problems I was having, but I was still stunned that any site could be set up like that (couldn’t delete things, had trouble entering data, that kind of thing). They need a good website developer! (I know a few I could recommend.)

However, for $3/print, I’m willing to give them a shot.

LP- where in Seattle do you go?

I agree with mpix. Their photos are great quality!
