damn thats some good money… i always thouhgt the mean salary was like 70-80K

If you’re interested in specific salaries, I think most of the public universities publish the salary of each teacher online. I was surprised because I always thought individual salaries are kinda private matters, but I guess it’s all public information. It’s weird to be sitting in class and know exactly how much they’re paying the teacher to stand there and lecture.

It varies a lot by discipline. Professors in the humanities and education don’t tend to make as much as those in business, technology, and the hard sciences. (I know this because my father has been a computer science professor my entire lifetime and I pursued a tenure track position in education and found that I would actually make more money in the K-12 classroom than at certain universities where I applied.)

Don’t forget publishing rights. A professor who writes a successful textbook can easily double, even triple, his or her salary.

^^^Yeah then he can change one word in it, call it a “new edition” then make that same money every year!!!
