Hi, everybody. How do you think, is it really bad if the professor’s e-mail is not an institutional one? In Russia it is very common, that professors have their e-mail accounts on free mail services like gmail or mail.ru. I’ve heard that such adress makes the LOR less trustful. Is it so?

Probably not a big deal as long the person is actually holding a title at an university… I mean… that’s typical of international stuff- only the US gets the .edu ending.

Non-institutional emails are common from non-US recommenders. No problem at all.

Thanks for your replies. These make me feel much more comfortable.
