proficiency exam vs. placement exam

these 2 are not the same right? I think the proficiency exam is what you take once you’re in school to see if you can test out of the language requirement. The placement exam is what you take online to figure out what course to enroll in. Is this correct? I’m in revelle by the way. Also, is the proficiency exam in french difficult? I thought maybe I could just take the proficiency exam and not take another quarter of french. I got a 3 on the AP test

well since you have concrete evidence (your 3) demonstrating your command of the french language, you’ll have to take LIFR 1D/1DX to finish your college’s language requirement.

you can attempt the proficiency exam, but my guess it that they won’t even bother wasting their time administering it.
