Project Runway: Gretchen over Mondo??

You don’t also remember Gretchen’s butt slings? They haunt my dreams…

I must have blocked them out…

butt slings… granny panties… lol

I seriously can’t remember anything Gretchen did BEFORE last night’s epsiode, either, where Mondo’s stuff is unmistakable and unforgettable. I know I’m repeating myself, but his clothes for the Jackie Onassis challenge were amazing. Anyone could wear his clothing (even Jackie) - he even has a framed photo of Jackie in his kitchen!

I would buy Mondo’s clothes in a heartbeat, and I don’t even know anything about fashion. Piperlime, indeed.

I think he should have won for his magenta pants when he designed his own fabric. Amazing, especially when one considers the story behind them.

Gretchen was so uninspired when she went to the Lower East Side.

I think Michael and Nina were just angry that Mondo didn’t remove the dress they didn’t like. They’re the teachers and he the unruly student. And they punished him.

Gretchen was given credit for her jewelry which she outsourced.

I was so shocked.

I think it’s interesting that M and N have the clout to prevail over Heidi and Jessica Simpson. I guess they’re the “professionals.”

But I also think Michael Kors clothes are boring and would never buy any. As for Nina, has anyone ever liked anything she wore? It’s totally nondescript.

Just watched it on TIVO (so glad I didn’t check CC first!!) and agree with everyone. Loved, loved, loved Mondo’s looks all season long and hated Gretchen (and her clothes!) Seriously, what was wrong with those two judges?!

As a side note, I actually have a lot of respect for Mondo for pulling out the polka dot dress again. It shows that he’s willing to stay true to his artistic vision regardless of whether critics approve or not.

I loved the polka dot dress. That design would have been wonderful with two colors or textures, or a different large print. I know those girls are rail thin, but the design was amazing and very flattering. I think with a few modifications that dress would have worked for a woman who wasn’t a size 0-8!

I agree that Michael & Nina were upset with Mondo because he did not listen to them and take out the polka dotted dress. Last week Nina went on and on about how granola Gretchen’s looks were, and this week she was so happy that Getchen listened and accesoried her pieces better – but they are still the same ugly clothes!! Nina should have to wear those granny panties if she thinks that are so “now”!

I think Mondo should have definitely won, although I did like some of Andy’s final pieces too. Gretchen came in a distant third for me.

Looking back, I recall Heidi & Jessica and even Kors & Nina raving about specific pieces in Mondo’s line, but about Gretchen’s they simply said it was “current” & marketable. I was very disappointed.

Where can I buy a Mondo dress?

Yes, she should!

Maybe Nina Garcia being pregnant leaned to Gretchen’s looks because right now and for the next season Mondo’s designs won’t work for her.

What was amazing to me is Michael Kors and Nina harped about how Gretchen thought she was all that all season long.

He even said to her what we all were feeling her style is put on a pair of sandals and call it a day.

Gretchen has a commercial factor, just like Michael C, but on a whole she doesn’t give me the WOW Bryant Park runway like Mondo does.

Mondo will be just fine and in 5 yrs from now he will be a household name (God willing his health), Gretchen will be Gretchen WHO?

I think even Michael C will be more successful or as successful as her. Ten will get you twenty he has already been offered a position with designers like Donna Karan or Vera Wang. He has that grasp of hiding the negatives of a woman’s body, but highlighting the positives.

I would wear Gretchen’s stuff to football games or just to hang, but if I was going to spend top dollar Mondo and Michael C’s items were more attractive.

I have to be honest, Andy’s stuff was just too harsh in his lines. I didn’t say to myself I want to wear anything of yours. I agreed with Michael Kors when he said a few weeks back his designs are S & M.

Gretchens designs to me were classic Mother Earth.

Granny panties are so “now”. Since when? I will have to let my grandma know. Maybe she can model them.

I am watching the show now on dvr - I liked many of Andy’s pieces. Some of them were a little too alike, but overall, a cohesive line - which the judges always like. I can see women of many ages wearing some of those looks.

Some of Mondo’s pieces were a little silly on the final runway - I didn’t like the block shapeless dress or the tshirt with the Dia de La Muerte skull over patterned leggings. I have liked his pieces through the whole season, but some of them in this final show were a little too much. I have loved his use of colors and patterns all season long.

I am sorry to say that Gretchens line looked a little too much like what I might buy off the rack at Marshalls or Ross. There were a couple of great pieces. I loved the flowing look of the one dress in the back. Lovely. But the prints weren’t great, IMO. Together, they weren’t my favorite line.

It seems like in last season’s finale, the judges said about Emilio Sosa exactly what they said about Gretchen…only with Emilio, it was bad to send out a department store ready to wear line, but this season it was good. (Guess Emilio was one year ahead of his time doing dept store RTW.)

Maybe Mondo will get his own show, like Santino Rice and Austin Scarlett, or Johnathan Kayne. Like it’s been mentioned, you don’t have to win the show to “win” in real life.

I really do think that this year they were thinking about what could be mass produced and sold at an accessible price point. Certainly not Andy’s. Many of Mondo’s looks seem too fitted and detailed to sell relatively inexpensively and easily on the internet. I think they can produce Gretchen’s easily.

Is Mondo Guerra his real name, or a nickname? I never figured that out. Maybe it was explained and I missed it during the season.

Anyone who names their kid what translates to World War has got some big ones. ;)

Maybe Mondo is a nickname for Armando?

And I thought it was a horrible, horrible decision. I couldn’t believe it.

Donna, could be a nickname. Makes sense.

I am now listening to Michael and Nina arguing with Heidi over the nature of Gretchen’s collection being more wearable and sellable.

I have been watching this show since it first came out, and this seems to be the first time they like things that are “commercial”.

No offense, but they loved people liked Christian Soriano, Jay McCarroll, in the past. Designers that had collections that looked liked they could be purchased off the rack were nearly laughed off the show and they hardly ever win the finale. Remember Laura Bennett? She is designing for QVC now, I think. Usually if they design too commercially, they were kicked off before the finale. They always wanted “edgy” or “couture”.

Suuuure they are. Where have you been? I see people walking around all the time in granny panties. Wait, now I think of it it’s just one person. And it’s in my bathroom.

Too funny. I can’t imagine anyone wearing them. They make the models legs look like stork legs but they’d make me look like I had sausage legs.

Mondo’s clothes are so flattering, I could wear them. The black tunic with the pink an shapes, I’d buy that right now and spend decent money on it.

I loved the little plaid dress with the bubble skirt, too.

And the skull T-shirt has caused quite a stir among my friends.

Mondo’s first look took my breath away. The shorts and blouse were gorgeous.
