Project Runway: Gretchen over Mondo??

Am I the only one here who was disappointed with the outcome of this year’s Project Runway? I LOATHED Gretchen, both as a designer and as a person (well, at least how she was portrayed on the show.) I really enjoyed Mondo’s clothes - both the ones he designed and the ones he wore! I’m not much of a fashionista, so maybe my opinion doesn’t count for much, but I’d buy HIS stuff in a heartbeat. Gretchen? Not so much.

So disappointed.

YES to everything you just said.

I thought Gretchens clothes were boring, trite and repetitive. How many times have the judges reiterated that this is a fashion SHOW. That repetitive ready-to-wear was boring?
aaaargh
I think the show has been criticized for promoting clothing that was just too unwearable and they saw Gretchen’s pedestrian look as being more appealing to the masses. (kind of condescending, don’t you think?)
By the way…I would kill for one of Mondo’s “day of the dead” purses.

I am also quite disappointed that Gretchen won. Her clothes looked like they were found in the costume department for the “Love Boat.” Old fashioned and ugly. Mondo’s looks were so fun and creative, and I loved the retro suit he wore last night. Totally unfair. And I hope Gretchen’s line bombs.

Agree with all of you. Mondo was robbed. His clothes really were fashion forward and unique while Gretchen’s line was just… brown. Not anything wrong with it, in fact, I could wear many of Gretchens’s dresses, which is precisely the problem, lol.

Mondo was robbed!

The repetitive colours killed me! Hadn’t they just kicked off Michael C for that very reason?!?

Thank God I’m not the only one thinking these things (I was starting to think I was just not “getting it”). I loved Mondo’s tribute to Jackie O, back during the season, and I loved how he mixed patterns and colors.

My D thinks that the fix was in to give the competition to Gretchen and stir up some controversy for next season. Ha! It’s a good thing that Tim Gunn is still with the show - otherwise, I might let my disgust with Michael Kors and Nina Garcia get the better of me.

Just google “mondo was robbed” and read the 1000’s of angry blogs on that subject.
Hilarious.

I have to mention the disturbing botox infused face of Jessica Simpson. Not a muscle moved. It was freaky.

Are you serious? I had it DVR’d and haven’t seen it. You should have had a spoiler alert.

Dang.

I didn’t watch this season but I did just look at the season finale runway photos. I thought that Mondo’s pieces were fresh and imaginative. I liked the palate that Andy used and I thought a couple of the separates were nice. Hard to believe that Gretchen was the winner. Brown and gray granny panties? Really?

Oops. Sorry, SL. I guess my anger clouded my good manners.

Save yourself the two hours of anguish and go straight to the sense of outrage, like the rest of us!

SPOILER ALERT PLEASE, I was just going to watch it but clicked on my cc account one last time … ARGH!!!

I agree, I was completely shocked. I think Mondo’s mistake was sending out the polka dot dress that 2 of the judges had already said they did not like. Heidi wanted Mondo but the other 2 were all for Gretchen. I didn’t dislike her clothes (other than the weird panties - what the heck was that about) but they were very ordinary and repetitive. Something you could find at the local store.

Agree about Jessica. I was trying to figure out what was so odd about her face. Thought it was just the extra weight she is carrying but botox makes sense. When she and Heidi were saying how they loved Mondo’s polka dot dress I kept thinking I do not want to see Jessica in that dress. And this is coming from someone who has weight issues myself, but I know that dress on me would be horrifying!!!

Totally agree. Was heartbroken. As heartbroken as one can be over reality TV. Will not say more for those folks who haven’t watched it yet, but I could.

But fie on two judges. And y’all know who they are.

I would wear many pieces in Mondo’s collection and even more if I had the body to do so.

I didn’t watch it, because I too have DVR.

I actually was dreading watching it because I didn’t like Gretchen, didn’t like Andy’s deisgns and felt that Mondo was going to lose.

Mondo to me as a woman had the best designs throughout the season. He played with color, he was not a backstabber, and respected his competitors.

I bet Tim Gunn and Heidi were spitting nails that she won after Gretchen’s comments regarding them.

Gretchen called out Michael C for his designs, but up to the last episode, she also had the same old same old.

Gretchen may have won, but she will be Ruben from American Idol while Clay has a more successful career. Mondo will be the Chris Daughtry for Project Runway. He will be the one where people clamor for his designs.

Last week she said Andy is one dimensional, so is she. She gives only Mother Earth designs.

I loved Mondo’s polka dot gown last week. I love how he just uses colors with classic elements. Gretchens designs are not new or exciting. I could go to Target today and make her runway statements. All you need is flowing clothes in neutral colors and call it a day. Mondo always played on the black and white with color, but go into Macy’s and you won’t see it there.

I will not watch my DVR now because Gretchen always gave me the willies!

I LOVE MONDO!!! The whole epidode I wanted to cut Gretchen’s hair, it just looks so scraggly. Her lipstick color looked very odd too (or maybe it was my TV). AND she was not poised on the runway at all, unlike the other two AND her outfit was horrible. The clothes were not bad, just not WOW. I wonder if Tim feels bad since he suggested Mondo keep the polka dot dress (which did look incredible on the model).

I totally agree. I have hated everything she sent out and just about everything that came out of her mouth. But the judges have loved her ugly clothes through out, so I was worried about this outcome. If there is any justice in the world, Mondo will have more success in the future because he is a sweet spirit…and Gretchen…isn’t.

As someone said, Jessica Simpson, PLEASE don’t attempt that polka dot dress! I’m not going to criticize her for gaining weight, but she needs to learn how to dress her different body. Her dress and Heidi’s pants suit were terrible.

On another board someone said that the judges chose Gretchen because her line would sell better on piperlime.com. That could be it.

Younger D came home from a Halloween party right after the show was over and the Ranger’s big loss…I greeted her with “do you want the bad news or the bad news?”

tx5,

I agree, through the whole season, I questioned how someone in fashion couldn’t get her hair looked like crap.

Have to say I also don’t get how Andy got there, his outfits were the 180 degree of Gretchen. (same with April). Every thing except one episode made me think to wear his clothes you need to have a whip in your closet. For Gretchen I felt you need to have birkenstocks.

I am a classic dresser with current pieces in my wardrobe. I can see buying a lot of paying top dollar for Mondo’s design and supplementing with Gretchen. I can’t see buying a lot of Gretchen’s designs and having the ability to supplement.

She is a here today, gone tomorrow. He is here today, tomorrow and 10 yrs from now as a designer.

I was just sitting here trying to even remember any of Gretchen’s outfits from last night - all I can remember is those awful panties. Mondo I can think of several pieces without even trying - the block pring dress, that real cute strapless dress, the skull tee shirt dress, the polka dot dress, and more. How could they have picked her. Grr.
