"Projected" AP Test Scores

My son has run into an interesting issue. One of his AP language exams had very poor quality audio. Unfortunately, multiple portions of the exam use audio based content. After a great deal of discussion, ETS has offered a number of options to the students who took this exam after listening to the audio themselves. One option is to have their total score “projected” from their sectional scores. This option means that one of the sections that will be used for the projection also had audio based questions but will be used as part of the basis for the projection.

What does a college think of or do with a “projected” AP test score?

P.S. He has opted to retake the exam.

Hmm, that’s an interesting question! I suspect that the folks in the admissions and registrar’s offices would get a chuckle out of it (at Collegeboard’s expense) and then treat the score like any other AP score.
