Prom Admissions

Well, I’m an international and I’ve been rejected from all the schools I applied to in the states (including yours truly), but I’ve used what I’ve learnt and have applied it to my life. Here’s something I wrote just for fun

Prom Dates

Attending prom is a daunting task faced by seniors all across the world. There are always factors of money, location and of course who you are attending with to consider. So to make this everyone for easier, I have decided to create an admissions process for my date. Since, supply and demand is so favourably skewed for me this coming spring, there will be a step by step process all dates will have to follow through. Though I must warn you, the competition is pretty hard, with only 1 applicant spot for every 60 girls. Without further waiting, here are the most important factors.

1) Academic Record -

Have you maintained a good GPA? What are your test taking abilities like, especially for the SAT’s? Most applicants must score well in Chemistry and Sexual Education, as well; many have excellent written and oral skills. To get a drift of numbers, last year’s applicants had a mean score of 740 Verbal, 790 Math, 750 Writing and an unweighted GPA of 3.9. Most applicants have taken HL IB courses along with AP courses. Being my date is a prestigious and world wide recognized title so your marks better be up there if you are seriously contending for a spot.

2) Essays -

Here’s the part where you can show me why you should be acceoted as ny date. We require one essay on the topic of why you are qualified to be and how you would contribute as my prom date; another optional essay can be written on the topic of choice and both should be handwritten. However, be advised that plagiarism is unacceptable. Our board of admission officers read every essay twice to ensure impartiality. There is a maximum limit of 700 words, and confessing your unconditional love repeatedly, although nice, is not original.

3) Extracurriculars -

Are you athletic? Do you swim, dance and play beach volleyball? Getting accepted as my date requires than just good looks and a perfect record. We want to know how you can contribute as a date in fields of athletics and arts. Can you dance for hours at a time? Is your drawing and make up skills recognized nationally? Have you competed in Science Fairs researching the mechanics behind Quantum computing? To all applicants out there, there is no right activity. Previous year date’s have had skills ranging from ballroom dancing to equestrian riding. Send in additional recordings/newspaper clippings if you believe they will help us understand you better.

4) Portfolio -

Remember to send in 5, 8x11 full colour pictures of you in a variety of shots. Recommended photos include action shots, model-looking stances, casual clothing, formal clothing and a grad picture. Remember to sign all pictures with your application number.

OTHER FACTORS TO KEEP IN MIND

Gender - for the first time in our history, due to a certain brokeback film, we are accepting applications for both sexes to ensure equality. However, there is still a 99.9999% bias towards the female gender.

Geographic Location - Every year we receive applications from all over the world. However, to ensure we create the best rounded prom date, applicants who are located nearby are given a margin of preference.

Bursaries and Scholarships - Prom is a financially demanding investment, and to ensure that all successful applicants have this opportunity to attend, financial aid will be given to those who need it. Note that we do not give out merit scholarships and we are need-blind to international students.

Race - No preference is given to race.

EDIT: I forgot about letters of recommendation. I will be needing 2 of those two, preferably from one science teacher and one arts teacher.

Formal Interviews will be given out 4-6 weeks after your application has been processed.

We hope you have found this guide informative to applying as my prom date. Acceptance, Rejection and Waitlist letters will all be mailed in early May. Good luck to all applicants.

rakeon – very entertaining. My application is forthcoming, along with letters of recommendation from previous years’ dates. :)

Don’t get your hopes up ILoveBrown, for every qualified applicant that gets in, 60 need to be rejected, but sending those waitlist and rejection letters sure are satisfying. I now understand the fun behind adcoms
