prom dresses, sizing?

okay, so i had to try on prom dresses today and had to get a size 8 so that i could zip it up near the top. It wasnt tight anywhere except the bust, does this mean, I’m fat, or just that my boobs are big? This is a completely serious question, although a bit frivolous.

You are more proportionally inclined to gain weight in the chest area.

Many people would die to be you.

That’s so stupid. They should make dresses that have 2 separate sizings for the top and bottom.

^^^I second that. And I have the same problem. I’m like a size 8, but I have to buy like size 12 and get it taken in. It sucks more than people would think, lol.

This is exactly why I have a love/hate relationship with my chest.

First off, basically everyone (who knows anything about fit/is not incredibly lucky) needs to have a full-length prom dress altered. You’ll need it taken out in the bust. Look for one that fits you everywhere else.

Anyway, what’s your price limit on your dress? If it’s above $300 or so, I’d recommend going to Saks or a similar store with great customer service, eg: Nordstrom, which is a bit cheaper. A price limit around $300 at Saks or $200 at Nordstrom will restrict your choices a lot, but you’ll be okay.
In stores like that, they’ll pick the dresses for you, and they’ll literally pull every dress in the store, even the ones in the back, to get you the right size. It’s very no mess no fuss, you just stay in your dressing room and your Sales Assistant shows up with endless dresses. When you’re done, you can buy it or just have it held until you get your shoes, if you need hemming. They have in-house alterations (for free, unless your dress was on sale) so once you have the shoes, they person who does it will come in, pin everything or chalk it to show where you need it altered. Come back in a week or so, and it’ll be perfect.
