Prom -- interject or butt out?

S2 was dating the same girl semi-seriously, but she broke up with him 4 weeks before Prom. Dejected, he planned to attend all-night party (a big deal here) with everyone else (not a requirement that you go to prom) but then one of his friends, a girl, volunteered to be his date and they had a spectacularly wonderful time. He still remembers it as a great event. S1 has a steady girlfriend and she actually told him NOT to make a big deal out of asking her, and they (and their double-date friends) turned down an offer of a limo because, as he put it, “Prom is already a bigger deal than anyone needs it to be”. Sometimes I think it’s us moms-of-boys who put some of the angst in :)

Yay, Youdon’tsay! Glad to hear he finally asked. My son managed to get a date, with 3 weeks to go. I had already volunteered to chaperone the after-prom party, which could have been awkward, had my son not been there. Unfortunately, after-prom lasts until 2:30am and we just found out our oldest son has an awards ceremony at his college the next afternoon. It’s a 4 hour drive each way. Ugh!
