Promt: Should we hold on to the old when innovations are available, or should we simply move forward

Can you mark my essay and give comments to make it better? Thank you so much !

As the maxim goes “The world is changing for the better”. People are tirelessly making innovations in order to improve the society, since the novel inventions enable people to do things they previously can’t, as well as bring new knowledge to them. Therefore, people should leave the old behind and move forward with innovations. This universal notions can be seen through history and science.
One example of why people should get updated with the novelty can be seen through the invention airplanes. Prior to the existence of airplanes, obviously, it tool people months or even years to travel from one continent to another. Columbus or other explorers suffered from the length of their adventure which led to their running out of food and commodities. However, with the innovation created by the Wright brothers, people are now able to travel long distance in a few days or even less. Airplanes enable them to improve their lives by shorten the time needed to complete their goals. If people refused to take on Wright brothers’ invention, they would continue to waste their time once they want to travel long distance. Therefore, innovations are beneficial; so there are no reasons why people should not take on the new.
Another instance of the benefits of innovations can be seen through the case of Galileo. At the time, people were manipulated by the Church that the Sun goes around the Earth as well as the Earth is a circle. The ideas, even though they were wrong, became strongly held. However, Galileo proved that the Church was wrong by pointing out the fact that the Earth is A sphere instead of a circle, and goes around the Sun, not the opposite. His new way of thinking swayed the strongly held belief, making an advancement to the sixteenth century science. Some people chose to abandon the archaic belief and followed the innovation created by Galileo. Thanks to their wise decision to choose the new, they made many important discoveries using Galileo’s theory as premise; one of those paramount discoveries is Newton’s theory of relativity. Obviously, the knowledge that the new brings about help people develop their wisdom.
In conclusion, as explained by the invention of the Wright brothers and the discovery of Galileo, abandoning the old and following the new help people achieve more comfortable lives as they receive new improvement and knowledge. Thus, people should not hesitate moving forward by using innovations as their guidances.

When you approach essays like this, you must ask yourself, “Why would anyone disagree that that?” Then you might realize that the best papers will not write about the things everyone agrees with, but will take on topics that are actually worth writing about.

This is especially true with the Galileo example. No sane person would think that we should hold onto an incorrect model of the universe.

Better examples actually have room for disagreement. Like, now that we have the Internet, should we completely ABANDON printed newspapers and/or books? Not so easy.

Or to consider your airplane example: should we completely ABANDON the pleasure and challenge of sailing a small craft across the Atlantic? Is there NOTHING of value there to ANYONE? I’m emphasizing certain words because they are what the question implies.

Seems to me, to get a 12 with this particular prompt, you’ll need to argue against the grain and make a case for the value of stuff that only seems to be made obsolete by innovation.

okay so if i change the airplanes example, it will be better right? plus, can you mark my essay? thank you so much

Personally, I think that with only 25 minutes, you should go with whatever thesis that fits your examples best, not the thesis that you feel is interesting for going against the obvious.

This is certainly true in professional or academic writing, but it is absolutely false on the SAT. You should pick the side you can most easily support with the examples you’ve prepared. It’s that simple.
