i’ve heard a few different pronunciations of wesleyan, including “WES-lee-ann” and “wes-LAY-in”. what’s the right way?

I think it’s the first. Almost positive.

yes it’s the first one… WES-lee-ann… although when pronounced quickly, such as in conversation, sounds like WES-lee-en

I think Wesleyan is named for John Wesley, so, yeah, Wes-lee-en.

You’d be surprised how much controversy there is about that on campus The common controversy is:
WES-leyan vs. WEZ-leyan
I’m a fan of the second one… but it arouses debate :D

haha interesting how that’s a topic for debate. i like the WEZ…it sounds laid-back.

i think that the original john wesley would be more than slightly amused to find out that his name is now wezley…

actually, he was british, so his name is correctly pronounced wezley. the school named after him, though, says the official pronunciation is wes-leyan. the vast majority of students say wez-leyan, though.

Do you think the way I pronounced it Wes-ley-ann in the interview got me rejected?:D
