Is there any way to confirm that the college counselor has sent the official transcript and letters of recommendation in time to meet the college’s deadline? The school uses Naviance. Thanks for any insight!

Did you ask the GC if they were sent? Do you feel you need some way to verify?

The ultimate verification is when the schools indicate they’ve received them. I have not bugged the GC and heaven knows DS never would. Just be aware it takes a week or more to filter down to your kid’s app and show up as “complete” or “received”. If you have access to your kid’s “my app” logins for each school, you could check there every couple of days.

In Naviance, when you view the “colleges I’m applying to” , the office status should say “initial materials submitted” for schools that had transcripts and school reports sent. It doesn’t give the date they were sent though. At least that’s how it works at my son’s school. Did the student use the Common Application for any of the schools in question? That shows the date that LORs and school reports were submitted.

I know each school can set up Naviance differently… at our school, when you look under “colleges I am applying to”, you can see that (1) the recommendation letters are completed, and (2) under the college in the “office status” column it shows “initial materials submitted”. Then go to the Common App, and click on “school forms”. A green arrow next to the college name is a good sign (it means that Naviance and the Common App are correctly linked). But I don’t think you can tell more than that at this point. The last place to look (and most definitive) is the college website if they have given you an id to watch your application status. Some colleges show what they have received. But some either don’t have that, or haven’t posted the info (U of Chicago, for instance, is having some kind of system issue and won’t be posting that info until later in November…).

It seems to me that most colleges show the dates on their website admission “portals” and for my S3 the one or two colleges that did not have that info available by web sent a letter telling my son he was eligible for EA. Our flagship, UofM has both a portal AND they sent an e-mail. If your son can’t tell from the college website or hasn’t received any information I would suggest sending an e-mail and asking (if he was trying to “hit” a EA deadline and was close to the wire.) On the common app I believe it shows the date that the college downloaded, but not the date the teacher or GC submitted, but I might be wrong as it was almost a month ago when my son was showing me that everything was done and delivered.

Our hs accidentally omitted one of the recommendations, from science teacher. Harvey Mudd was kind enough to email my son and accept it late. I went into a tizzy afraid that it had been omitted for all apps, but that was not the case.
