Proper Class Abbreviation

When addressing specific courses in an essay, how should it be abbreviated? On the department PDF for the economics guide it shows economics as Ec 980, however on the website it will address them as Economics, just wondering what to place in my essay, Ec, Economics, Econ. what looks most professional/pleasing to them? Thank you.

How specific are you trying to be? If there really is something about one specific course you want to discuss, then use the name of that course as listed in the catalog.

In general, in formal writing, it’s a bad idea to abbreviate without good reason. Stick to “Economics” (although you don’t need to capitalize it when referring to the science of economics as a whole).
