Property owned and FAFSA

Considering buying a house for grad school. How does the FAFSA treat property owned vs cash on hand?

It doesn’t matter for graduate school. There is no “need-based” aid - no grants, no subsidized loans. You’ll be offered unsubsidized direct loans up to $20,500 per year and can take GradPLUS loans up to COA.

As far as I understand, your house that you live in doesn’t count against you on the FAFSA if you’re an independent student, which you will be.

But, as polarscribe already said, it doesn’t matter anyway. Need-based aid is virtually nonexistent on the graduate level, and the financial aid available to you is not based upon your income.

Thank you
