What are some pros and what are some cons for someone who would be traveling from CA to IL?

Brrrrr! It gets really cold - but it might be a great experience to live in such a different place

Soutwest has direct flights to Midway airport, which is 30 minutes due south of U Chicago , from both NCal and SCal -it is soooo much easier than flying into O’Hare!
Some areas around UC are a lot like the not-so-nice areas south/east of USC. Other areas of Hyde Park are nicer/ older /quaint. The stores close to UC leave a LOT to be desired, but downtown Chicago is a quick train ride away on the M.
You wont need a car- fact is finding a place to park one is a major pain and most UC students simply dont have one.

The weather will probably be a downside. However, most thing about u chicago are good. The campus is beautiful, and chicago is absolutely amazing.

Less smog. Fewer earthquakes. Nicer people.

Really? For some reason, I imagine Chicago as a brown city because of the smog. I guess I watch too much TV

Keep in mind you’ll be attending the school for 4 years. Go visit the school in the winter months. That is the only way you’ll know whether it’s the right fit for you.

Do you know U of C opened a PR Office in San Francisco just to promote the school? Nice guy we met in a parents gathering, told us a lot of inside information about the college.

Actually, based on the PR guy, California has the largest representation in Chicago other than the State of Illinois. We sent 100’s to U o C. We spoke to a LOT of parents and they all reporting that their kids adapted well over there.

Yup, its a windy city known for cold weather, last winter they even had the first school closure snow day for XX years of school’s history. But if you want a quality education, it is a fine school where fun comes to die…(no, no, they have fun, they do party).
