Pros of the Semester system that people don't realize

Just read the title and you will get the purpose of this thread (for current students to give reasons why the semester system is better)

I’ll go first:

-NBA playoffs and finals:
On the quarter system, you have a last round of midterms that conflicts with the playoffs AND THEN again during quarter system finals study time conflicts with the finals and semifinals.

On the semester system, you basically just have a scenario where you finals study time conflicts with the early rounds of the playoffs (so you aren’t missing much). Since semester system ends earlier, you will be able to watch the semi-finals and finals in peace at home, with no tests to worry about.

OK who’s going next?

LOL yeah agreed.

also, semester peeps get out for summer earlier so you can make fun of your quarter system friends who are still in school. on the other hand, i don’t really mind going back to school a month earlier than them.

Loooooooooooooot longer winter break! Also not really a semester thing, more of a berkeley thing, but I LOVE how we only need one semester of general chem. Grand finale!!! Less telebears! (Imagine having that 3 times a year…■■■!)

I love the longer winter break. Also, less switching of classes, therefore not as much adjusting to new professors and new teaching styles.

I like all of the previous notes about the semester system, all reasons why I’m glad I’m in semester system and am moving onto one for grad school as well. I like the idea of only having to buy textbooks for 2 “sessions” worth of books instead of 3.

Here’s another reason, it is a better form of the high schools system (i.e. your finals aren’t after winter break on college semester system), as opposed to a completely new system; thus, there is less necessary acclimatization.

^ yes. i hated that about high school. although i never did any studying over winter break back then anyways, it was still stressful.

Je fais du bumping

This basically sums it up/is number 1 on my list for liking the semester system.

^I must state this as someone loyal to Lakers, I strongly disagree with your username

OKC vs. Lakers in the first round should be damn exciting to watch…

predicting Cavs win it all this year btw

Getting a jump on those summer internship interviews. Entering job market a month early. Having a longer summer after graduation when your matriculating into a graduation program starting in late September. Those things. Basketball.

-never having to study until I hear the prof say the words “midterm/final approaching”
-the first few weeks of school are actually fun (unlike other UC’s where they have stuff due and midterms right away)
-long winter
-early summer
-early start…just as you get sick of summer internship & home & parents & high school friends working at walmart who talk about how their going to be “successful” when they’re 40
-the semester is six weeks longer…so it feels so much better :D

OKC has a solid shot at LA. especially if bynum isn’t playing or not playing well. Plus who knows how kobe’s doing right now.

If cavs meet magics in conference finals, i think it’s gonna be the same result. dwight is teh man

Orlando over Lakers in 6. This coming from a Lakers fan…

Kobe’s been so inconsistent lately, so who knows…

Diggin’ the basketball benefit to semester system. Too bad, we’ll have the early rounds during our finals.

Another benefit is having your quarter friends visit you in fall, and then you visit them after you’re done in May.

Gah… the game on right now is killing my productivity.

If OKC doesn’t shoot better, they’re in for a long series. (By long, I also mean short).

update: halftime Lakers 47-39, they had a 17 point lead but OKC came back with 8 straight points from westbrook.

anyways UCB semester is way better than all the quarter system schools where you have a big ass test every other week
