Currently I’m in no honors. Plain and simple. I’m in an accelerated math course, and by senior year, I WILL be in Calculus, just not AP. I’m fighting to be moved up to APUSH, but otherwise I have a pretty basic schedule, French IV, Chem (might move up if I do well first marking period), Pre-Calc Accelerated, Design Drawing (level 3 mechanical drawing course, working with robotics as well), and Instrumental Music. With the suggestion of the HSL posters, I am most likely going to take the AP calc AB exam even though I’m not taking the AP course, but I don’t know if that will count do to it being at the end of my senior year. I am heavily involved with my church and youth group. Later on this year, I am working with this program called Camp Acorn, where I go and work with the handicapped at a day camp program. During the holidays I also go and serve at a soup kitchen in Harlem. I am in the Jazz Ensemble, Honors-level Wind Ensemble, and Marching Band, and my trumpet playing is very good, I take private lessons, and am going out for region and county bands next year. I’m in the top 50% of my class, maybe top 25%-our school doesn’t tell us anything until senior year, and my gpa will be a 3.6 at the completion of this year, due to a rocky freshman year.

Is there anything I can do that could help outweigh the fact I’m not in all honors courses?

I’m really interested in going into mechanical engineering, but right now I can’t move up to Pre-Calc honors. I am going to try to get A+'s the first marking period, and ask my guidance counselor to try and move me up if I succeed. Other then waiving up, is there any other work I can do to increase my chances?

I was thinking of dropping my mechanical drawing classes and instead taking AP Bio, but I wasn’t sure if thats the way to go.

One last question, if anyone knows, how many girls are actually in the engineering program? Will I be among many, or among very few, if I were to be accpeted?
