hi all

I know that these themes are discussed not once, but could you help me to find out about admitting in these colleges.
I’m having slow connection which makes it difficult to search.

I’m from Kazakhstan, have ended school in Russia. I want to study in college then transfer to Stanford (some dreaming) or Berkeley.
Which college is good for this?
What the difference?
How hard is it to get admitted?

Any links and info will help.

Thank you for your time. :)

Both Foothill and DeAnza are great, there is no huge difference between them in terms of future success in transferring to a good 4-year college such as the UCs (including Berkeley). I believe DeAnza has more international students, but I am not certain.

The key for transferring into a good school such as a UC is to get a great GPA at the California Community College (CCC for short). Both Foothill and DeAnza are fine CCCs to attend. So is West Valley College, which is also in the area. Aim for a 3.7 or higher GPA to get into the UCs… a 3.9+ is even better.

It is not hard at all to get admitted to a CCC. The transfer acceptance rates vary at each of the colleges. Stanford has about a 2% transfer rate–therefore most transfer students are turned down even if they have an awesome GPA. Berkeley is a bit better with a 22% transfer rate, UCLA with a 26%. Other UCs are not so hard to get into, UC Davis is a 53% transfer rate for example. (www dot collegeboard dot com).

So, in short, there is NO DIFFERENCE between CCCs because they all offer almost identical classes and the UCs and CSUs and privates do NOT care at all which CCC you attended. They look first and foremost at your transfer GPA. Go the CCC which is in an area you want to live and that the campus looks like it offers what you want and/or offers services to international students.

The biggest thing is for you to be able to afford to live in the Bay Area and pay your tuition. There is very little financial help here for international students.

Thank you for explaining.

But I didn’t get about is it hard to get accepted for international students?
What results I should demonstrate to be sure that I’ll pass?

I don’t know about acceptance rates for Internationals into a CCC… from what I know, the CCCs love Internationals because they pay high rates as non-citizens, so to be honest, Interationals help the CCCs to make money. So, I am guessing that it is not hard to get accepted to a CCC.

And as for transferring to the UCs, a similar thing - probably not too hard as long as your GPA is high from the CCC. And if a UC doesn’t work, there are lots of CSUs, too. I know plenty of Internationals that got into UCs and CSUs as long as their GPAs were high (3.7+)
