prospective major and acceptance

i was wondeirng, say that you have the stats to be competitive at some of the best schools in the country. If you apply to a major that few people go into, but have shown a love for it in your stats, about how much do you chances of acceptance increase?

i would expect that your chances would increase, but only slightly. people are changing their majors all the time. however, it might possibly help if they are looking to fill a certain department. you never know, though…

Depends on the school; it’ll make a difference if you are required to apply to a certain school within the college. Does the school offer that rare major you are talking about? If it’s offered, there must be a number of people in it.

Depends on the school:

Johns Hopkins, for example, the Biomedical engineer program is far more selective than any other program the school offers. You have to indicate that you want to major in that in the application and then undergo a more rigorous admission.
