I am a current freshman at UCONN and wanted some help in deciding what school is best to apply to in NYU!
I am deciding between applying for transfer to NYU for Psychology at CAS or designing a Psychology + Business concentration at Gallatin. My main goal is to build a strong foundation for a master’s in I-O Psychology at NYU, and I am wondering which academic path might better prepare me for that.
I like Gallatin because of the flexibility and the idea of the interdisciplinary major, but I’m just worried about not getting taken seriously or not having the requirements to apply for my masters in I-O at NYU.
I have also heard about a BA in Social Sciences at the School of Professional Studies at NYU, in case anyone had more info on that.
Is there any difference to where I might go when applying for my MA in I-O Psychology; or is it purely based on requirements I fulfill with classes?
Thank you!
In my experience students in highly ranked master’s programs (and other graduate programs) come from a very wide range of undergraduate universities. It is also very common for people to get their last degree (whether master’s, PhD, or something else) at a different university compared to where they got their bachelor’s degree.
I think that you should seriously consider completing your bachelor’s degree where you are, and then applying for a master’s degree at NYU (and most likely other schools).
For industrial-organizational psychology I would expect that having internship or work experience would be very important in addition to other factors (such as classes taken, grades, and references).
You can try to transfer as an undergraduate student. Keep in mind that this is often more difficult compared to changing universities between a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree. In terms of which school at NYU to apply to, look at the course requirements and courses offered at each school and look for a good match with what you want to do.
