Protocol on when/how to mention Honors College affiliation

Sometimes, a statement is just a statement.
People over-analyze things. Sometimes words just spill out without thinking.

As you asked simply for our opinion, here is mine in regard to “I see no need to mention the Honors affiliation in casual conversation”. In my opinion and as you admitted yourself and I was trying to put forward ever so unsuccessfully "I see no need " is a key here. YOU see no need while the BOY does not care who see what, it is HIS speach after all, nobody has any control over except to deny him to speak out for whatever reason, but he was not denied so HE expressed his situation in a way that deemed appropriate to HIM, not anybody else.

“People over-analyze things” - This is definitely the situation here, agree 200%

Baktrax for the win. There are times you want people to know things and times you don’t.

When you hear something you think is “Braggy” it’s often jealousy.

^^ I agree- post #34 = spot on.

Yes, @baktrax summed the discussion up nicely.

Again, I cited an example only because that’s what inspired my question. Having heard from numerous posters who didn’t see it my way tells me that my reaction was inappropriately harsh. Doesn’t mean that I have to change my way of presenting similar info, just that I should be accepting of how other people do it. I think that’s a positive outcome of having asked the question.

More globally, the discussion has reminded me that any response a student gives regarding college is perfectly fine. These are 17-18-year-olds, hopefully excited about their plans, and anything they choose to say about where they’re going should be met with congratulations and good wishes for the future.

Well, I, as a parent, who is very proud of her son, is more than happy to volunteer the full tuition scholarship, engineering scholarship, and honors college, but only when asked where he’s going to college.
