Protocol question

D is in the age/grade window where coaches can’t call her back. Two former teammates of a particular college coach have called the coach on D’s behalf.

Is is ok to make references in emails like, “I’m so glad coach so-and-so called you about me and I am looking forward to meeting you”?

If an alumnus makes a call on an athlete’s behalf is that ok?

When is it not a good idea to reference an intermediary or common contact?

I don’t see that as a problem. In the sports with early recruiting timetables, it’s pretty typical for a club coach to act as an intermediary.

As far as how to phrase the email to say, “hey, I’m the kid that so-and-so called you about”, I think your phrasing sounds fine.
