I’ve been looking around the U of I site for awhile now, and it still doesn’t say what exactly the dorms will provide for each student in the way of furniture, etc. (desk, lamp, and so on) Does anyone know what they provide?

They have room lights, desk, chair, bed (as in a matress and frame), sometimes a doorstop, dresser (depends on where you live, don’t think so in public), blinds (some kind of shade), and I really can’t say much more. They are pretty barren. You have to make them your own. They’re your typical college dorm rooms. Private has carpets and nicer desks and stuff. Public has pretty much nothing supplied. What exactly are you looking for? You can rent fridges and air conditioning (if your dorm doesn’t already have it) but it’s cheaper to buy fridges.

You can also rent a floor rug that will cover most of the floor. If you end up needing to rent a floor rug, you need to do it as soon as possible because they go by fast.

Most public university residence hall rooms have a fairly large closet instead of a dresser. The closet will usually have a bar for hangers and two shelves above this bar. The bottom portion of most bottom bunk beds have two drawers you can use for clothes.

It might be a good idea to bring your own plastic drawers or crates to organize clothes and other stuff. Most closets are large enough for you to stuff and stack your own drawers into them.
