Providence College - social scene & learning supports

Hoping someone can provide current insights into a couple of things.

  1. Student is not really into the party scene. Will they still feel connected socially or does everything revolve around parties etc

  2. Not catholic. They’ve looked at curriculum and are OK bc much of it seems like a historical perspective (rather than trying to convert to Catholicism)

  3. Learning supports? Has anyone used accommodations &/or student success center programs (coaching etc) & can speak to that.

Also looking closely at American but I think sports at PC have student thinking about ED.

I attended PC and know lots of kids that go there currently. There is definitely a party culture and lots of kids partake. There are off campus parties, parties in the on-campus apartments and small groups drinking in the dorms. They also go out to bars (even underage). But there are also lots of school run events that don’t involve drinking. Movie nights, theatre performances, D1 sports, intramurals, lots of clubs to join, etc. They are also fairly close to downtown Providence which has become a pretty cool city with lots of great restaurants and shopping.

I know kids who go there that aren’t Catholic or are non-practicing. I don’t think it’s a huge issue but there are crosses all over campus and you will see priests (Friars) on campus and some of them are professors.

I can’t speak to learning supports.

Thank you! Very helpful info!

  1. Lots of activities but many center around sports, partying and campus ministry.
  2. Development of Western Civ (DWC) is taken for 4 semesters and you also take two philosophy courses and two Theology courses. Theology is really about Catholicism and doesn’t really look at other religions.
  3. Student Success Center is very supportive. Writing supports, tutoring, DWC study groups etc. all available outside of actual accommodations. Some faculty are better than others in honoring academic accommodations.
