The application asks for an email address and a name of the people who serve as mentors or supervisors or advisors for my extracurricular activities. Should I notify them that I am sending this information? I am planning on sending in the application tomorrow. Do you think I should wait a little to see if they reply back or no? Thanks!

The only reply you are going to get is that your on-line account will show receipt of application information. As to telling EC supervisors that you are providing their contact info, if you are from Illinois the answer is probably no because they likely already know that. From anywhere else you may want to mention it to them since a possibility exists that UIUC may check with that person to verify an EC, although the chances of that happening are low.

It is considered polite to ask a person if it is alright to provide them as a reference, whether or not they would “expect” to be used. For future reference it is more polite to ask people if they are willing to be listed, rather than inform them they will be listed. ie: “Mrs. So-and-so, Would you mind being listed as an adviser for XYZ Club on my UoI application and possibly be contacted by email by the University of Illinois?”

If you have a good relationship with all of these people there is no reason to expect they would say no. If you really wan to get your application in I do not see a problem in submitting it before you hear back from all of them. Since you’ve “informed” them of this, I don’t think you need to wait. If you has asked them, I would recommend waiting at least three (and more like four or five) days after to send the application in, so if anyone says “no” after you’ve sent it you can apologize, but say that you didn’t hear back from them soon enough.
