Runninglover - also what are you looking to major in?

thanks guys!! ![]()
USC, URich, and SMU are in my top 3. im also looking into a bunch of liberal arts schools as well (davidson, colby, pitzer)
uhmm im thinking about chemistry or biology…not sure which one, i might double!

runninglover - I got accepted to Southwestern University and got a merit scholarship of 14,000 per year. I also got accepted at TCU. I haven’t heard from my other 6 colleges yet. In case you haven’t heard of Southwestern University, it spun off SMU and they are located near Austin. Interesting tidbit. Do you like TCU or Southwestern University?

NewJersey17 – We LOVE TCU. Son got accepted last week. There are quite a few TCU threads if you want to check them out.

I was considering TCU and southwestern as well but since im applying to 10 schools, i had to cut a few schools out.
but i love TCU’s campus!! ![]()
im not sure about southwestern since i’ve never been down to georgetown :P

I received the provosts scholarship!
Act 31
Extras: published playwright, director of two shows, actor is several production, varsity dance team (sec of social counsel), sec & co vp of book club, tri m music honors society, about 5 different awards & scholarships with about 100 comm service hours.

I have a question though! Does getting this scholarship take me out of the running to get either pres or hunts??

Provosts…

33 act (twice)
4.0, most rigorous
Sr class VP
BPA President
Yerbook editor
Varsity cheer captain
Dance teacher
Among others lol

Not gonna lie, I was expecting a bit more…got 60k from Baylor for stats alone.
I really love smu

I got Provost as well.

2300 SAT.
13 AP’s by end of senior year.
3 major internships, 1 okay one (with a doctor)
National Merit Semifinalist.
President of 2 clubs.

I’m really confused about this as well. (the provost scholarship, so I can’t get another scholarship?)

Apparently people like us who got scholarships durin this round are still in the running for pres (&hunts if you apply) as well as others. This is an initial scholarship and depending on what else we get could be the only or one of several!!

Best of luck (I’m your competition!! But I wish y’all the best!!)

son got in to SMU w/ Provosts (12K) and TCU with Deans (14K) and Baylor (14K) - still waiting on Brown.

his words exactly - “Well, this sucks…all that work for this?!” but then SimpleLife and some others helped us understand these are simply the first round of offers - more to come later in the early spring.

stats:

ACT 31 (missed 32 by 2 questions…bummer) - he was going to write an essay on why the ACT science portion (his strongest subject in school and worst score on ACT) should be labeled “Chart Reading” because it had nothing to do with science…LOL…we talked him off the ledge on that one thank goodness.

Val or Sal of class of 150 - he is still duking it out with a kid who’s got freaking insane study habits, but we’ll know by Jan 14

5.31 (straight A’s) weighted all honors.
National Honor Soc.
Phi Theta Kappa in junior college which is a bit unusual. Started taking juco classes summer after his freshman year and had enough hours finished by spring of soph year to qualify for Phi Theta Kappa, so he’s been in that for 2 years now, VP of PTK this year.

42 hours completed at North Central Texas College with a 4.0 GPA there. General courses mainly but also Trig, College Alg and Calc I for science as well as Gen Bio and Gen Chem. He will take 9 more hours this spring to finish high school with 51 completed - and hopefully keep the 4.0 GPA.

Not much on EC for school stuff, maybe Key Club and Band fresh and soph years.

Big EC was church youth leadership and worhship band which is a huge deal in our community, just couldn’t make the colleges understand this.

I just opened son’s acceptance letter last night and found the Provost letter behind it. Didn’t know he had that. ACT 33, lots of honors, APs, leadership, etc etc. Hoping for other scholarships to make this work; he loves SMU!
