*PSA* I just raised my math score from a 650-680 to a 750-780 in three hours

Sounds crazy, right? I’ve taken a few practice tests in math and always fallen in the high 600 range, which is weird for me as I’ve always been very good at math. I was pretty discouraged after the one I took this morning, I’d read the entire blue book and it didn’t do anything for my score.

Then I found this guy on youtube: [Brian Redman - YouTube](http://www.youtube.com/user/RadicalPrep/videos?view=0)

I watched all his videos, even the ones on the concepts I already know well. I did all the examples. Then I took another practice test. I only got one wrong! And it was a pretty hard test, too. Basically, if you have math capabilities but find yourself getting so-so scores, watch these videos. I plan on rewatching them later this week and again the night before the November 3 test date.

They basically just point out tricks and remind you of 9th and 10th grade math. He shows you easy ways to get around the stumpers or the ones that you spend an hour creating complex systems to solve.

Can’t stress enough how much these videos instantly boosted my understanding of SAT math. Only negative is that he doesn’t talk about parabolas or linear equations, so I’ll be going somewhere else for those videos. Other than that A+, raised my score about 100 points in a day. I’m going to do my best not to let everything I just learned leak out over the next week.

Thanks for the videos!

Great find man!

Anyone have these for CR/Writing?! :)

No, but I boosted my CR score in a similar amount of time using one strategy: annotate the hell out of everything. I went from 650s to 750s in a weekend. When you see a thesis statement in a passage: underline it. When the author uses words like “indeed”, “nevertheless”, “however”, “but” (either changing his tone or emphasizing something), circle it because that sentence is important. When you get a sense of what the author is trying to say, write it out in your own words next to the passage. Always read the italics at the beginning. When you have a passage 1 vs passage 2 scenario, always read passage two as if you wrote passage 1, this gives you a better idea of how the passages relate.

Writing I’m not as good (690s) but basically agreement is huge, mark up the sentences as well and make sure verbs apply to the right subjects, pronouns are correct, etc. Look up some basic grammar rules for the SAT and learn them.

Thanks for sharing with us! :)

Also for anyone still looking for math improvement, Gruber’s complete SAT Math workbook is the BEST way to learn all the essential skills…

Just took another one! Range of 720-800, missed two. Feelin good

Nice!! Now only if this was posted one year ago when I was a junior aha.

Wow! these videos are actually very helpful!

I read the Grammar Bible. It gives you a deep understanding of grammar, as well as of grammatical facts you never knew. In a way that isn’t so boring. It might help your reading, too, because you start to notice the basic structure of sentences (also the book is long and one best read and digested).

The book is long and best if digested, but if you don’t have the time for that, just reading prts of it and browsing the index does wonders.

Hey guys. Update: Took the November 3 SAT. Got a 770 in math!!! Done with studying for that one. I also got a 760 in writing!!! So thrilled with those scores, especially since I’m a junior. I’ve far exceeded my goals in both of those categories. I found myself remembering things from those videos during the actual test. They really helped me a lot!

That’s awesome! I hope that happens for me too because I’m stuck in the 620-650’s for math.

Wow how amazing! I will definitely be looking into those Youtube videos! And congratulations those are amazing scores!

@nothingto1 Thank you! I’ve always been a top math student, I was really just stuck on the SAT-style questions I think. I took a lot of practice tests, read the blue book, and watched those videos and it gave me a 100 point boost, good luck!

@WhatAGoodLife Thanks :slight_smile: I’m stilly happy

Thanks for sharing, and congrats on your huuge improvement!

Congrats on your November SAT score, OP. I will definitely check out these videos since I seem to be stuck at the high 600s/low 700s.

Thanks guys for all the nice words! I really should’ve gotten an 800 on math, too. I forgot that 1x0x2x6 doesn’t equal 12 so I got one wrong. Whoopsie. Oh well I’m not upset, a 770 is pretty much the same as an 800 anyways :)

Thank you so so much for this post!! I’ve been stuck at the same math score twice but after watching every video and doing a practice math section, my score just improved by 100 points!!! This is awesome and it works everyone should watch these videos!

I started watching Radical Prep a couple of weeks ago. Saw my math score increase 150 points. I try to re watch all his videos every week so i wont forget!
