Just saw this on the news, I don’t know if it’s affecting personal computers or just corporate systems BUT apparently there’s a massive ransomware attack affecting Windows… They’re using a vulnerability that was outlined in the NSA leaks to get into people’s computers and demand money in exchange for getting your files back. Microsoft released a patch for it recently, so if you haven’t updated Windows lately, I’d do so right now!
Looks like this is currently mostly targeting corporations. I was hit by something similar in the past, and was able to use free software from malwarebytes to get around it (had to load it from a usb drive). Looks like this attack is so heavily encrypted malwarebytes hasn’t been able to get around it.
I thought it was just corporate computers as well but now am not sure-- CNN reports the first “ransom” they ask for is only $300. Then it goes up every hour after that. That’s low for targeting corporations. Apparently there is a “patch” that can be used to thwart this thing?
