PSAT 2011 Wednesday Answer Thread

Last note: I hope we all did great. @Overide: We are human and do dumb things. That is just part of the experience. Let’s not forget to keep our high school careers in perspective and reward ourselves for our efforts. Oh, and one last question: for the Mo and Duncan passage, did anyone else answer that Mo was jealous of Duncan because the students liked Duncan and not him?

The patent… yo-yo company… available… It was no error. Enmity has nothing to do with mocking– more like rancor. The answer about the students preferring Duncan was probably best answer, but I don’t know.

@jeffrey yeah thats what i got, think it was wrong though.

i hope that was right.

@jeffrey do you remember the yoyo question? like how it was structured? i cant recall it still hahahaha

i just remember feeling like the answer was definitely no error. i remember thinking to myself that it was a beautiful sentence.

gramatically that is. i’m sorry i don’t remember how it was structured.

no the answer was 11,11,2 because even though it’s an isosceles triangle, you CANT ignore the triangle inequality rule. any 2 sides added MUST be bigger than the third side. in your case, 1+1<22, versus 11+2>11 and 11+11>2.

TEXAS 219 cutoff ■■■

Can somebody tell me what my score probably will be:

-4CR, -1M, -3W

hey everyone who thinks the answer to the least value with -1<x<0 is 1/x^3… you all are wrong. think about it. if you substitute a value for x such as-1/2 and that becomes
1/(-1/2)^3. well (-1/2)^3 is -1/8. one choice was 1/x. the bigger the denominator, the bigger the fraction. 1/-1/2 is 4 times less than 1/-1/8. so the lesser value is 1/x not 1/x^3

(-1/2)^3=(-1/8) … 1/(-1/8)=-8
1/(-1/2)=-2

-8<-2

Did any1 else have 2 no errors in a row in writing lol o.o

And one of them have to be
from have wrote to something like have written?

No you’re confused on the words. If its the LEAST you go as much negative as you can, -8 is correct lolol

Everyone agrees that the thieves question was originally “showed” and “has shrunk”, right?

^^Thats what i put.

So I’m confused about how we know that Professor Mo was mocking the American English teacher when he keeps on saying “kind,” also why in the writing about the readymate art should the added idea be about how readymade art becomes appealing. I feel like it’s not important how it becoms appealing; what’s more important is his views and the critics views about the shovel exhibit. Finally, do you guys think that the CR curve will be large this year, because I think I got like 800 on math, 770 on writing, but maybe up to 10 wrong on CR (I know that sucks). Help please anyone??

If I got 3 wrong on the writing would that be a 720?

I think, it depends on the curve, it could be anything between 700-750.

I feel like the writing curve won’t be too generous this year, even though that thieves and artwork one seemed to throw people off.

I have a feeling Critical Reading will have a good curve. -1 will probably land an 80 and -2 may land a 79 or 78.

Math probably will not because it never does :stuck_out_tongue: Last year -1 was a 76, but I won’t anticipate that this year’s curve will be as bad as last year’s.
