When students talk about, for example, “the non-calculator section was easy but the calculator section was difficult” …is the math curve calibrated somehow to consider that?
I’m not really clear on what this would mean or how it would work. There’s no “curved”, “scaled”, etc. score for individual sections that I’m aware of.
The “curve” is defined so the top x% of students get the same score the top x% always get, the next y% get the score that the next y% always get, etc.
I would think this is done for the two scores in aggregate, so your raw score across both math sections. Again, I can’t think about how this would be done differently. What are you thinking they would/could do?
@RichInPitt , I can’t see how they could delineate the sections. I’ve seen students comment online about their “hopes that the calculator-Math isn’t a tough curve” - but those comments probably have more to do with the students not understanding the scoring system.
I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing something.
