What’s the highest selection index score someone can get?
228
What’s the best way to prepare for the PSAT? I took it for fun without practice in 9th grade and I got 1270 total(96th percentile), with 610 reading/math (92nd percentile), and 660 math(97th percentile). I’m confident that if I take it for practice in 10 grade my score will improve just because I have a better feel for the test. Is it a reasonable goal to try for National Merit Scholar by 11th? Any steps, methods, or tips in doing so would be appreciated.
@num3ric with practice you should be able to do it. I took the 4 practice SAT’s on Khan Academy to prepare.
I got a 1410 and a 209 SI which I thought would give me commended status, and yet the guidance department hasn’t answered my emails and tells me to come back later whenever I ask. What’s the deal with that? I’m on Long Island, if the state by state cutoff makes any difference
Your GC might not have the official notification yet. It’s typically sent out a week or two after the semi-finalist paperwork. They should have it very soon though. With a 209, you should be commended.
Did you ever learn why it is that you received such a message even though you had taken the PSAT? My student is in the same boat right now for the 10/2016 PSAT, as the test was taken, and the PSAT people (telephone call) state they have record of the test being taken and do have a score that will be released on 12/12/16, but when logged into the CB website the message “Our records indicate you have not taken any College Board assessments” is generated. Thanks in advance for your response.
This is a guess, but most likely, you have more than 1 CB log-ins–that could be with your current student or a previous one.
Do you think a 221 SI will make the NY cutoff?
will a 1500/1520 on the new PSAT be enough for the national merit finalist
^^very likely for NMSF^^ I believe the worse that you can get for you SI is 224. I am not sure which state requires more than 224 for NMSF.
BTW, this is a 2015 thread
