I received a letter in the mail from Wellesley a little while back saying they picked up my name from my PSAT scores and some inspiring words about applying to the school. I really love Wellesley and was wondering if the letter and/or the PSAT are at all significant in terms of admission. Thanks!

I don’t know for sure, but I’m pretty sure those are sort of form letters. I wouldn’t read too much into it.

However, if you get National Merit anything, or if you do well on your SATs, Wellesley will love that. While the letter itself probably doesn’t mean much, the fact that you did well enough to get a letter probably does!

Good luck, and congratulations!

I agree with Menagerie. While it must surely be a good sign, it does not guarantee admission. The college also looks at things like the essay, your actual SAT score, GPA, teacher rec, etc. The letter does mean that you should really go for it and apply to Wellesley.

When you will receive a letter of commendation next year, you’ll also receive a form that asks you to indicate two schools that you would like notified about your high PSAT score.
