Hi I have a question about missing the PSAT and alternate entry:
Tomorrow is DD’s in-school PSAT administration, and they will miss that because they are ill. We’ve been to the doctor, she’s taking antibiotics, and we are waiting for test results to see if it’s walking pneumonia or something more serious. So that’s all documented.
DD was initially horrified to realized she’d miss the PSAT because she was really hoping to qualify for NM.
While she was looking for info on makeup testing, she learned about alternate entry. As she already took the SAT in August, it turns out this might be just fine, as she is very well positioned to exceed the NMSF cutoff.
My question is this: In order to qualify for alternate entry, does DD have to attempt (and fail) to find another school where she might yet take the test while the testing window is open?
Or should we be confident that so long as there’s a medically-necessary and documented reason for missing the original administration date, her application for alternate entry will be accepted?
She is hoping to stay home tomorrow, finish taking antibiotics and get well, and then move on, applying for alternate entry so she can use her SAT score to try to qualify for NM.
However, I’m a little concerned that she’ll miss out on the opportunity to qualify if she doesn’t at least talk the testing coordinator at our school.
To this, she (not unwisely) points out that they don’t always have the best info, and since she’s very legitimately missing tomorrow’s test, would rather not risk having a well-meaning but perhaps-uninformed (?) administrator push her into taking the test at another school later in the month.
If you have any experience or insight, that would be much appreciated. Thank you!
