PSAT/NMSQT and AP

I am a US Citizen but studied high school out of US. I intend to take these tests for my transfer after 1st year in college.

Do admissions consider PSAT/NMSQT & AP Scores of a transfer student?

Can I take the NMSQT without taking the PSAT?

Can a transfer student get a scolarship by taking the NMSQT?

Is PSAT/NMSQT something the admissions consider? Is it a plus on the application?

Thank you very much!

The PSAT is a shorter version of the SAT - when you take the PSAT as a junior, your score (and your home state or country) are used to determine whether you qualify for National Merit Scholar status - the NMSQT part stands for “National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.”
That is why it is written “PSAT/NMSQT” - it is not 2 separate tests - just one test score used to determine National Merit Status.
For National Merit Finalists, some schools offer great scholarships, so it is worth the effort to prepare for it and try to score well.

AP scores are separate from the PSAT.

International students can get National Merit status, but the cutoff scores are higher.
If you are a US citizen, your home state will be used to determine your cutoff score rather than your country of residence.

Taking the test after your first year of college would not help, since you are only eligible for National Merit before you actually enter college (taking the test as a junior in high school).

Your effort would be better spent trying for a good SAT or ACT score if you are applying as a transfer after 1st year of college.

Hope this helps.

Thank you very much! Do you know if the admissions consider AP scores of a transfer student?
@Nerdyparent

AP scores carry little to no weight in the admissions process; they are mainly used for placement and/or credit.
