@gensis: uhhh that’s a good question. I only heard the scores from guidance, didn’t actually see them, so I’m not quite sure what determined the curve. I definitely did get a 79 in Writing, though, and this was the Wednesday test.

when the bluff will I get my scores? I’m in illinois.

207…commended. I’m pleased but would like to bring my score up.

@yankee, I didn’t see an overall state percentile, just the state percentiles for each category.

California - I just got my - 195, horror
CR 59 (in state 83%)
M 72 (in state 96%)
W 64 (in state 92%)
I hope for better SAT

got my psat score…

shifted my answers in math… cost me 11 points… @@. sooo much lower than my sat score. D; and i bubbled stuff wrong there too.

ughhh. i kinda want to shoot someone now XD that 11 points cost me a chance at semifinalist. well actually, 2 points did. but that 11 points… gahhh… D;

I dont understand my math score.
Last year I had 3 wrong and got 73, this year I had 2 wrong and got only 72.
So this year math was much easier than last year.

I know my first math mistake. I missread the question.
I should count pair of lines not lines. I am stupid.

But I dont understand that question.
Can someone explain to me?

Mathematics: Question 35

Question
The Venn diagram above refers to 250 students and their extracurricular activities. Each student participates in at least one of the three kinds of activities shown. Of all the students who participate in sports, how many of them also participate in drama?

I put 41, but the correct answer is 21.

My son is a freshman and this is the first time he has taken the PSAT. He missed two questions on the Math section and received a 76 (he took the Wed. test). Does everyone who took Wed test receive the same score if they miss 2 questions, or does the level of difficulty of the missed question also factor into the score?

I am not sure I am phrasing my question very well: if someone missed 2 “easy” math questions, and someone else missed 2 “hard” questions, would they receive the same or different scores?

is 197 enough to be Commended? Also, what were the curves for the W test? I remember seeing a link… but I didn’t bookmark it. xD

Sophomore:
Selection Index - 209
CR - 66
M - 72
W - 71

Almost exactly as I predicted…

The math curve was wayyy harsh. I made two dumb mistakes in math (not looking at absolute value in one question and disregarding the number 0 in the “AA2” code question), one in writing (buffalos) and probably one or two in CR. I guess next year I’ll just have to be more careful. I should be capable of getting NMSF.

snowbeltmom, my soph D also missed 2 questions on the math section of the Wed test and got a 72. Your son’s 76 confuses me. The level of difficulty does not affect the score. There is no deduction for missing the fill in math questions (1/4 pt for missing the MC), my D missed one MC and one fill-in, but I find it hard to believe that was a 4 point difference!

seniorsfo, the correct answer to #35 IS 41 on our score sheet.

^ The two forms (Form W and Form S; Wednesday and Saturday) have different curves. The curve for Form S was more lenient in the math section than the curve for Form W.

Is there anyway for having your scantron rescored? Apparently I misbubbled. I checked over everything I wrote in my book and what was on the scantron and I’m pretty sure I didn’t do anything like that…

“The two forms (Form W and Form S; Wednesday and Saturday) have different curves. The curve for Form S was more lenient in the math section than the curve for Form W.”

That’s right, but since they were both Wednesday tests, they should have the same curve!

^ They are different tests.

Mamabear, the online score report confused my son and me. My son received the paper report today in the mail. According to the online score report, it stated that he had missed 2 questions, but according to the paper report, he only missed one - for a score of 76. On the online score report there was a category called “Communication” and it stated that he had 7 out of 8 correct. However the category had a * by it that stated in the footnotes, “These math-only process skill groups were not included on your Score Report Plus”. Could these questions have been extra questions? I remember reading that some sections on the SAT may be extra and the results are not included in the final score.

Got a 224!!! :D

I have two questions:
- The cutoff for Maryland (where I live) last year was 220, how much do people think this will change?
- The NMS website says that 8400 of the 15000 finalists get scholarships. What stats do you have to have to get the actual National Merit Scholarship?

I got a 214… dammm T_T But I studied a lot before the December SAT so I have hopes for Monday D: My state’s cut off was 217 last year so I’m pretty ****ed. -2 on math=72…that sucks. As well as panicking on Writing and making stupid mistakes for a 69
