PSAT Scores and NM

I’m wondering around where you have to score to be commended in California?

Also, do you think it is possible to raise a score of around 170 to the 222 area by this upcoming PSAT?
I have been prepping for the SAT so far but not too much for the PSAT specifically. Any tips or how you raised your scores is appreciated.

By the way, when I got a 170 i was out the night before until three AM for a family thing and it was a really hectic night. I think that affected my score by at least ten points. Plus, now I’m familiar with this format which I wasnt before.

So is it possible to raise it that much?

Commended is 200, across the nation.

It’s finalist that is state by state.

I don’t know about a 50+ point jump, but I improved +25 from my sophomore to junior year to achieve NMF (with a little help from Kaplan’s prep book). My independent studying wasn’t too intensive, but depending on how motivated you are, you could probably improve even more.
I think prepping for the SAT is an excellent strategy in getting ready for the PSAT—the PSAT is designed to be slighly easier than the SAT, but with the same type of questions. I took the SAT online prep course the summer before my junior year, and I think it gave me a really good head start. I also met roughly once a week (with a few lapses) with two friends of mine who wanted to do well on the PSAT; we took practice tests provided by our counselor and went over the answers together, explaining things to each other, because we each had a different strength.
Good luck!
