Cutoff in Louisiana is 207.

Just spoke to my son’s GC who told me cutoff in Fl is 212.

Updating Louisiana. Have not updated Florida as posts #587 and 534 are not in synch. We need one more confirmation for FL as to cut off

I’d say that confirmation from GC in Fl school that cutoff is 212 is pretty strong. Maybe should at least indicate conflict in cutoff list.

modad, the posts in 327 and 534 also sound pretty convincing. Are the GC’s actually told what the state cutoff is, or do they just assume based on the semifinalist scores in their schools?

National merit will release names on Sept 16th per official letter to semifinalists.

Son officially notified of NMSF status with a 217 in RI

GC are told what cutoffs are. No reason for me to think otherwise with respect to discrepency.

Florida’s cutoff is 212 until someone with a lower score can attest to a different one.

I see so many people that seem to have their semifinalist results already. Do schools already have them?

214 did not make it in MN, cutoff must be somewhere above 214 per school GC

My son got his packet from his Guidance Counselor today - he is a semi-finalist with a score of 228.

Based on historical data and trend, I think we can safely put a floor of <=223 (current Maryland floor) for all the states with no reports or reports that are higher than 223. If memory serves me correctly, MA and MD are the perenial winners of the “highest floor” distinction. Btw, I’d even go down to <=221 (current MA floor) with the possible exception of MD.

FYI: Just called National Merit, since D’s GC said school would not be notifying students until mid September (even though we know she made it, but want the “official” word  ) In contradiction to post #591 by marishaun, National Merit does not send any letter to students at home (unless homeschooled). If your D or S hasn’t heard, I was told by them that you can call them after Sept. 16 to find out your child’s status (Their official release date, as we already know is Sept. 16)
