Hi,

I am in 10th grade and got my PSAT results back last week. The scores were: Math:60, Reading and critical writing: 58. I never study for these tests. By how much will it improve if I really atudy hard.
Thanks.

Rehearsal is probably a better term than study. On these tests you are being tested on material that you already know. This is particularly true on the math section where the more talented students are in precalc or calc and being tested on material they had three years ago. Taking practice tests is not for learning new material but for mistake avoidance. Buy a book of practice tests at your local book store. Don’t limit the time you use to take the test at first. This is more like music: first work on quality then quantity (speed). Study the questions that you miss. You should be able to bring your score up 20 points over all. Also read a lot and pick books you like.

Hi,

Thanks for your response. For the reading, is nonfiction or fiction better?

Thanks.

read a good newspaper all the time, and as far as fiction/nonfiction. nonfiction will suit you better for the sat, just keep it sophisticated and challenging. take a crapload of practice tests, those scores need to improve by application time.
