@evanfermos - I specifically emailed admissions and asked that question and the person said “Changing his major now will not impact W*** application processing time. He will remain in our November 30 review group.”
I have a question about my status. As a theatre applicant, I have a different status message than a lot of you.
It originally said “Your application is currently under review.” After about a week or two, it changed to:
“Admission to your program includes both a talent review and an academic review. Both must be favorable to gain admission to the program.
If you have not already done so, please submit the interview, portfolio, or audition requirement for your major outlined at artsandarchitecture.psu.edu/howtoapply.
Once a decision has been made, it will be posted here.”
I recently had my interview this past Saturday. Does this mean that I have already been deemed ‘academically favorable’, and that admissions is now just waiting for a response from the theatre department?
Accepted last Thursday into Eberly
SAT: 1870
ACT: 29
GPA: 3.2
@zipbags Congrats to your D! Been following your posts and happy to hear she’s in! My D is still waiting for a Smeal acceptance after 3.5 months of “under review.” 32K scholarship at UDel was a nice surprise so it will be interesting to see how her outlook changes as time ticks by.
@psudream I am waiting on Smeal too. Following admissions on twitter and #psu2020 and have seen very few posts on there for Smeal as well. I just continue to be positive and look at it as one day closer to acceptance!
Tom Petty said it, the waiting is the hardest part. We were told by several sources about “rolling admissions” but no one ever said they were selective, based on intangibles, that the great unwashed masses which we are apparently part of would hear at some point. To me, rolling means first in, first notified, a theme echoed by the reps – PSU alumnae – at our school’s college fair. And so we wait…and wait…and wait…
Accepted DUS/Summer Start. OOS (Virginia) GPA 4.0 but SATs a little low (1740). Her activities are pretty impressive so I have to think her resume helped a little. She applied around November 10th. Penn State is her #1 and she will be attending!
@BeachMom21 Congrats. Did your D want summer start? Since my daughter had a 4.0 gpa and a 1660 SAT and got fall start for College of Health & Human Development.

Good luck to everyone!!
@zipbags She did choose the summer start b/c 1. Her brother said he sure wished he’d started in the summer and 2. She was really worried about her SAT score and just wanted the best chance since it’s her #1. She is a dancer and has some pretty bad hip pain we’ve been dealing with and it makes it really hard for her to sit for a long test like the SAT. I’m a teacher so I’m glad she’s starting in the summer b/c I can actually go up and stay in SC for a few days and not be rushed.
@zipbags @BeachMom21 Therein lies the huge frustration people have with admissions everywhere. Last year I saw several students who were accepted for fall start with lower stats than my D who got summer admission. It makes no sense except to say that every school weights differently and the rigor of classes matters as well. A 4.0 from one school cannot be compared to a 4.0 from another school.
That being said, BeachMom, my D went summer and LOVED IT! Congratulations to BOTH OF YOU! That’s awesome to hear before Christmas!
I know this is a decisions thread but since i couldnt find a discussion thread for psu class of 2020 i thought ill post it here.
Chance me pls

what are your stats?
do you know if there are different requirements for smeal?
What I can’t remember, @jlhpsu is what the choices were on the application. Were there 3: Fall Start, Summer Start, and Fall start but Willing to do Summer Start? or were there just the two choices–Fall and Summer?
@beachMom21 I think the choices were Fall only (what my daughter chose)…Summer if I get turned down for Fall or just consider for Summer start.
Accepted College of Communications
1830 SAT
3.75GPA (4.5)

Now my D will need to visit soon as she was accepted at some other schools and needs to figure out which one is right for her.
I think we meant to choose “Summer if I get turned down for Fall” but Chose “Summer”. She’s really happy to start in the summer, though. Her sister is at UVA and will be gone all summer doing an internship so she would have been lonely anyway. Now it will be me who is lonely
congrats @zipbags !!! Awesome news for your D. We still are in wait mode here! Seeing that your D’s stats are very much in-line with my sons - ACT 24, 3.85 UW and 4.15 W - and considering we applied for DUS for a summer start, perhaps a decision will be forthcoming to us very soon. I think it helps that I am also a PSU alumni as well as a THON alumni.
Not getting to uptight about though considering most decisions are made in later Dec or Jan. This is the first time we as parents are going thru this process – quite honestly while it is stressful, we are trying to enjoy it and learn from it for when our daughters (who are twins) will be going thur the same process in 2 years (lord help me!). Also kind of funny that both your D and my S both applied to both UD and PSU. Our aps were complete for both schools on 10/2…
Again, congrats!! Such great news for the Holiday! Hopefully we receive a decision in the coming weeks!
@burbs20 Thanks. I honestly think her getting a decision now as opposed to end of Jan is luck of the draw. I believe they make decisions on the higher stat students first. Then have a giant pile of applicants…and just randomly pick them to decide upon.
Did your son choose summer only if denied fall or summer start only?
