Also, I noticed an email from PSU about accepted students day. I was confused and then realized they may have spoiled it to me! I checked the portal and it had the acceptance letter on it! A week or so later i got the packet in the mail.
@jaboo703 You didn’t need to apply to be reconsidered for Smeal. All DUS students can take any Smeal class for entrance in the major. And Smeal is harder to get into than DUS. So you may get denied at this point. I’d take the DUS acceptance and run with it. You can take any Smeal classes as a DUS student.
Hi, had my app re-submitted to PSU Univeristy Park. Applied to IST. I was wondering if anyone else applied to IST at University Park for Fall 2016, or even got accepted yet. What are your stats? There’s not much info on this site regarding students who got accepted into IST.
Hey! Can anyone chance me?? I have a 4.2 w gpa, 3.92 unweighted (94.1 average) w/ 2 AP and 9 honors classes. My sats are only 1760 (1850 superscored) however! I applied computer engineering at UP with summer option to be safe. I’m feeling I may be best for summer Cuz my sats but my gpa is pretty solid! Let me know your thoughts!!
@Fisherprice111 Your in for fall, if not then 100% you are for summer. Penn state values gpa for 2/3rds of their application and you have a 4.2 weighted. Don’t sweat it you are fine go out and enjoy
@Fisherprice111 I would honestly be mindblown if you didn’t get in fall with a 4.2 weighted and a 1760 sat, your sat isn’t so bad that they would put you into summer with that gpa.
I’m starting to wonder if there a whole lot of people who even apply to IST. I see way more people on this discussion thread talk about going to Penn State’s law school, engineering program, and even liberal arts program.
@Dragonfire16 You are correct, however the people on this thread are only a fraction of students that applied to PSU, with a record amount of applications in the hundreds of thousands. I am sure many students applied to the IST program. I was also wondering a while ago what the difference was between IST and lets say Computer Science. They are both similar but IST has cyber crime and the more ‘people’ aspect to tech. But what I read somewhere was interesting. If you start with the CS major you can minor or switch to IST no problem. If you start in the IST program it is harder to get into the engineering side or minor in CS. Not sure how true that is, but it was a discussion. I think the IST program is great for anyone who in interested and I hope your reconsideration goes through if not go to Harrisburg. Congrats!.
i hope not! Honestly I’m supposed to go London over the Summer and it would suck if I can’t because summer session. totally would tho. I’ll keep you updated! When get my decision ill mention in the comment @asaberian
Hello could someone please chance me for Summer Session at UP?? I have a 3.7 weighted gpa and 1520 SAT. I am hispanic… not sure if that would be a hook considering my boards are on the lower side. Thank you so much in advance this is a tremendous help.
@crazycat220 Thank you, I hope my reconsideration goes through as well and I hope you hear an acceptance from University Park soon. That’s true that this thread is only a fraction of the people who applied. Guess IST people aren’t very active on these threads. I would say computer science is a more popular field in general. IST, you learn programming but for application development. There are many different fields of study under the three main IST Degree Programs which are Bachelor of Science in IST, Bachelor of Science in Security and Risk analysis, and Bachelor of Arts in IST. There’s a Design and Development option under Bachelor of Science in IST. This is programming heavy. Since I wasn’t too good at programming myself, I’m opting for the Integration and Application option which is also under Bachelor of Science in IST. I would believe that If you’re studying IST and want to switch to Comp. Science it’s hard, but not the other way around. Comp. Science degree offers more jobs in the long run.
Not sure if I should be worried or relieved that I didn’t hear yet. I’ve had friends who have been rejected earlier and also accepted awhile back. I still haven’t heard and I don’t think that’s good.
I have a 3.78 weighted, 1710 SAT, very good essay about summer alone in Cali at 16 working on apps, lots of ECs and have a brother that graduated from psu last year. Applied dus with option of summer.
DragonFire16: Do you or anyone partaking in this thread have any knowledge of prior cases like yours (reconsideration) that actually turned out successful? What do they do when they reconsider you and can you supplement your application further? Such as mid year grades, etc? Thank you!
