How hard is it for someone to be reconsidered for UP and accepted if they applied before priority, are within all of the gpa and sat requirements(middle 50% stuff) and has good leadership and ec’s. Applied only for UP with summer option and got denied. want to change to DUS and see if that helps. Called and they said I have good stats but the major applied for had a ton of applicants so they are letting me be reconsidered for DUS. Let me know what the chances are of getting into summer at UP. Thanks!
@ian123 they aren’t even allowing some to resubmit for reconsideration so it’s good news that they allowed it. It may just be that the major you applied for is super competitive.
A lot of people get in after reconsideration, but some do not. All dends on how many people are doing that.

@rf1998 Your son’s stats are on the bottom of the blue section of the bubble chart so I think you stand a very good chance for DUS Fall or DUS/Summer. Definitely give it a try. Good luck!

Question for the alumni, their parents or other experts in this forum. Student X gets accepted into marketing, Smeal Business School as a freshman. He, however, may not take upper business classes or declare a major until junior year? This is confusing. Can he switch his major to finance, or risk management in his freshman year? Thank you.
@frank6215 even though they may say you are in Smeal as a freshman, you really are not. No one chooses a Smeal major until the end of sophomore year. Just another PSU nuance.
@frank6215 students starting in the business school or DUS are in the same boat as far as the business school. Both can take all of the prerequisite entrance to major classes and both apply to the business school (if they have completed or are in the process of completing ETM classes and have the GPA required - either a 3.2 or a 3.5 for finance). I always tell people who have borderline stats and want to do business to apply DUS, since it really is no different than getting in to Smeal from the beginning. When you apply the second half of sophomore year that is when you pick your major so yes, he can switch as long as he meets all of the requirements.

@jillmam13 PSU does not consider letters for any reason (except honors college). Your GPA is far below middle 50% and your SAT is borderline middle 50%. There is no way, in my opinion that you can get into UP if you’ve already been denied summer DUS.
I’d like to note here for other applicants, that summer DUS might “work” as an admission strategy but ONLY if you are borderline or above. Summer students often have GPA’s as high as the fall admits. The reason they were put in summer could be anyone’s guess. But summer is not for low GPA and test scores. It’s not a catch all. It is still difficult to get into UP as a summer DUS applicant…it’s just easier than say, fall engineering.
With a 3.0 1660, you are solidly in commonwealth campus admissions and not UP. Sorry…
