Was glad I got UP, little bit surprised I got Summer but I’m not too upset considering I was probably going to volunteer for it anyway. Not my absolute dire first choice acceptance, but I still have to give some thinking to it
My son was accepted to Erie for engineering undecided for fall. He would like to have his app resubmitted to DUS fall. His stats are 25 act with 3.91 gpa. He has a 4.26 this semester too. Lots of AP and honors and some college courses. Questions for you all.
Has anyone resubmitted their app and heard?
If he does ask to be reconsidered will that take away the engineering for Erie?
What is the time frame to hear back?
He can’t do summer due to an internship

You can be in Smeal as a freshman, but you cannot be a marketing major or a finance major or any other major in Smeal as a freshman. You are considered a “pre-major” or “Smeal student with intended major of marketing (or whatever.)” There is no issue of “switching” majors before the end of sophomore year. I’d have to go back and check but I’m pretty sure the entrance-to-major course requirements are the same for marketing and finance. However, the g.p.a. requirement is very different: any student who wishes to declare a finance major at the end of sophomore year must have a 3.5 g.p.a. For marketing I believe it is 3.2.
@crazycat220 - We just did the same thing for my son. He was accepted to Altoona College of Engineering - Computer Engineering. We called on Friday to be reevalatuated for DUS UP Summer. Admissions Counselor said it would NOT negate his acceptance to Altoona for CMPEN and a slot was still being held. Said it would take about 2 weeks to get a decision. I see today on his profile the acceptance message is gone and now reflects the requested DUS major UP, Summer checked, Altoona. And his status now reads " Your application has been updated. Please check back soon for a status update"
There is no way to “chance” reconsideration. The more people that ask for it, with higher stats, the less space available. But the good news is, this isn’t new. They are used to this. And not everyone who asks for reconsideration is granted it.
my son was recently accepted to Smeal as accounting major but does he have to apply at end of sophomore year? wif he has the min gpa 3.2 and course requirements, is he guaranteed acceptance into a specific major or are there other requirements…thanks

If he takes all the entrance to major classes and gets a C or better in them by the end of sophomore year and also meets the GPA criteria, he is guaranteed admission to the specific Smeal major. It’s my understanding that if that doesn’t fill all the spaces for the major, they will start admitting those with the next highest GPA until the major is full.
@lrc1988 In a word…No. Some people want a Smeal advisor rather than a DUS advisor, but a DUS advisor is completely aware of Smeal requirements and able to advise accordingly. Other than the advisor issue, there is no difference.
@hwksltz Depends on when you applied. If you applied before the Nov.30th deadline you can have an answer from now until Jan.31st. If you applied after that…I believe it will be by the end of Feb or March.
My son was accepted to smeal for summer. I called to see if we can do DUS for fall and they can switch him to dus for fall. After much discussion, we will stay with summer smeal. His gpa uw is 3.9 and 1780 SAT.
