PSU Class of 2020 Decision Thread

been waiting since the first week of September for my Smeal application, but I feel like tonight is going to be the night to stay up and check the portal at midnight. Good luck to everyone who still hasn’t heard yet!!!

Does this year seem ridiculously more competitive to anyone else??

I was accepted into the college of informational sciences and technology at UP for summer 2016
GPA: 3.86 w
SAT: 1630
Had a really good essay and involved in lax team, NBHS member, FBLA member, and multiple other clubs

@aspada1027 Congrats! Are you in state? Male/female? Son still waiting on same major.

@Fisherprice111 Yes, it seems that way. It’s interesting. My son’s high school class is also very competitive this year. He currently has a 4.0 weighted and his rank is 18%. If he was is the previous class he would easily be in top 10%.

@freckledtatertot
Daughter’s stats:
SAT: 1740
GPA: 3.74w/3.68
PA Blue Ribbon HS
5 APs
NHS,WLHS
Student Council, Sr. class officer
2 Var Sports, band
Community service w/ cancer fund philanthropy

Based on other kids from our HS who have been accepted or rejected, SAT seems to be the determining factor.

Just Accepted in Smeal Buisness School University Park for Fall!
Male
SAT: 1510
GPA: 3.23 Weighted, 3.1 Unweighted
Size: 11
PA: Private School
1 AP
Varsity Squash Player (and Captain)
Not really involved in anything other than sports.
No community service.
Hook: Brother went to Penn State and was in a Fraternity
I’m Extremely excited to be accepted!

I applied early, and the last day to find out is the 31 of Jan. It still says my application is “currently under review”, so do I still have a chance?
I always felt good about getting accepted to PSU, but now that I am down to the wire I’m not sure.
Did anyone get a last-minute acceptance?

@kimba3842 I am in state and I am male

@Nrnjersey124 I know! I still haven’t heard from them either. Good luck to you!!!

Interesting twist. Email this am from the director of admissions saying that my son’s application had some ‘inconsistent data’ on their end, and after re-review, he has been accepted to PSU Main Campus for fall for Engineering.

Bottom line: Mistakes can happen. If your decision does not make sense, call or email PSU.

@cdk That is great news and well deserved. Did they update the web site yet? .

@thekingofdelco Congrats. I have seen a few people with higher stats rejected.

Still waiting - applied to DUS on Oct 10th. Waiting forever!

@zipbags Thanks! I’m majoring in communications and I applied for fall 2016

@Thewaiting4ever no computer update yet, but they said by the end of the day. I am curious as to exactly what happened, and hope others don’t have similar issues…

Trying to stay positive but still waiting for a decision since Sept 1. Admissions said it could be all the way up until Jan 31 before a decision is posted online. Then a letter will come in the mail 7-10 days after that.

@stillwaiting2020 My daughter found out she got in when she woke up on a Tuesday morning. Letter came 2-3 days later…7-10 seems like they are covering themselves. What major did you apply for? Good luck!

@stillwaiting2020 and everyone else still waiting - don’t forget …you can be accepted right up to the last day. Some even went over last year because of issues with their applications. But if you look at last years thread, there were a lot of acceptances at the 11th hour!

@CDK that is awesome. It did seem like a mistake that’s for sure, and with as many applications as PSU receives, accidents will happen in some cases. Just stinks when it’s you and it causes so much stress! Is he considering going to PSU? I know he’s had other acceptances.

The acceptance thread is always interesting as there are always outliers and everyone tries to figure out how or why someone got accepted or didn’t. I wish I were a fly on the wall of admissions some days!

Congrats to all of the acceptances and good luck to those still waiting! My D found out on Jan 26th last year, but there were plenty who heard after her. You are definitely at the finish line of at least KNOWING where you stand…

@zipbags My S applied to the College of Earth and Mineral Science. If we could do it over, I wouldve had him apply to DUS but we didnt get good counseling on that. If the decision is not favorable, I’ll see if it can be changed for reconsideration. He did apply for summer and I was actually hoping for summer over fall. It sounds like a great experience. He did get another acceptance this morning from a different school and was accepted into his 1st choice major so that gave us a lift. But PSU is his #1.
